ZEE one question? before the recent wescot and O2 talks how long had it been since you defaulted?

Please do not pay a penny until you have a letter saying the £260 is a Full & Final payment in complete settlement of the debt and will fully discharge you from all and any liability to O2 and any of its agents under this account.

Well they gave me ALL the options available to me when I used them, so you are wrong in that respect.

Well basicly O2 had sent me a form where i was supposed to write my eranings and my outgoings and return it to them, i did this 2 weeks ago, 3 days later a recieve a letter from O2 saying that some of the information was incorrect and to refill in one of those forms, so i was in the process of refiling it in and going to send it, 3 days after O2 had send me the form saying the information was incorrect, i recieved the letter from Wescot.

basa, again with all due respect, stick to what you know . Your well intentioned posts are not helping zee's situation.
He / she has already made a payment by debit card and has, therefore, established a relationship with Wescot in their capacity as a debt collector.
Otherwise why would he / she be making payments to them?

That letter though has to come from whoever owns the debt, if O2 own the debt still then WESCOT can write all the letters they want but none of them will be legally binding.
THis is what myself and Mr Angry is trying to put across that the first step should be to find out who owns the debt and get a copy of it before any other monies, talks or arrangements are followed. If O2 then deal with them, if WESCOT have bought the debt outright then dealing should be with them. Only after that information is known can ZEE progress and pay the correct people and get the debt fully written off..

Re: Debt Collection Agency
I don't understand why they would settle for such a reduced amount to clear the debt?

They've bought the debt at probably 10% of the actual worth (in this case that's probably £119.50) anything they can get over that amount is net profilt.

A truer statement than you could imagine. The debt question came up again in the BBC news with the loan companies targeting poor estates

I think the story title is very apt

Re: Debt Collection Agency
When my eyes went bad I got into all kinds of trouble with debt - luckily for me the CAB have helped me sort it all out.
The only people who are being unhelpful are (and still are) the halifax credit card people.

Re: Debt Collection Agency
In the case of BBC news story (and Zing's experience) they're not aiming money at those saving, instead they're targeting estates where the majority of people are on the breadline and with social pressures to spend money at times like xmas
