Child Trust Fund recomendations
Hi guys our first baby is due in a few weeks and we are trying to work out what the best savings account is, so our child will get as much money as possible?

Re: Child Trust Fund recomendations
I initially took out my daughters ctf with Liverpool Victoria, but then they decided not to do them any more. They did a deal with another company to transfer all the accounts over. I looked at all the possible ctf companies around and decided to go with their automatic transfer and haven't been disappointed. We actually lost money with Liverpool Victoria, but the transfer went to Family Investments. They only deal in CTF's and have just hit the 2 million account mark, which obviously shows that they're trusted by many other parents too.

Re: Child Trust Fund recomendations
We put our sons ctf in the Lloyds TSB scheme which wasn't the best idea as I think he has around just over half of what it was worth. You should probably google to try and find the best option for you.

Re: Child Trust Fund recomendations
My daughters ctf was transferred over to family investments in March this year with a balance of about £530 in it, after losing just under £200 with LV. Since then we've put £50 a month in, which has brought it up to £900 and her actual ctf is now worth £1135. So, it's made about £200 in the 8 months with them, which is not bad really in the current economic climate.

Congratulations to you both. I love babies so envy you. The broken night's sleep doesn't last long..... and the lifetime of digging into your pocket... sorry I mean pleasure lasts forever.
Since having my garage converted I've filed my important policies in the loft so pulling the ladders down tonight will wake up my 2 former babies . I do remember one is performing better than t'other so I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know.

Hi there, delighted to hear about your good news. Have you ever heard of "priorities"?

Got my little girls, with Lloyds no issues etc.
However, savings dont become a "concern" until atleast 3, far too much other things to deal with..

Without starting "anything" here. Is there really a need to put that on the end? Maybe, they are trying to give their child the best possible start in life, I started saving for my daughter, shortly after the second scan. I wanted, her to be able to do the things, I could never growing up. So please, re-think what you are saying there.. Good on them for being responsible parents.
Secondly, good luck to you both privateb. I hope the birth goes well etc. It's for me, the most amazing thing I have witnessed in my life! Are you going to cut the cord or not? Oh and *try* if you can to get "out" of the first nappy change, it's literally like, melted liqurish!!

Empathy is not your strong point then? Or are you trying to make a point without actually making it?
If you've got advice to give, just give it...

For what it's worth Family investments (Family equity plan ltd) is performing much better than Engage mutual assurance (formerly friendly society)
FYI. My mind goes blank with such matters. My rule of them is; if they're offering you a free camera/lcd TV/DVD player then you're better off looking elsewhere.

Re: Child Trust Fund recomendations
We went for the Childrens Mutual Baby Bond stakeholder account, split between a few unit trusts.
Long term UT's should outperform most interest based accounts.
Don't forget to top-up, assuming you can afford it.

Which is exactly what I was attempting to convey.
I reiterate my best wishes to the couple. Under current regulations they have a year to figure out how to give their child the best possible (financial) start in life.

Maybe so but I still "saved" for her, before she was born. Probably a good idea to be honest..

Actually I think that shows that Family Investments is one of the companies HMRC automatically sends your trust fund contribution to, if you don't take any action yourself.
