New changes to our shopping life
I don't know if anyone has noticed, that when you go shopping, the store is now stocking more and more foriegn foods and not the normal English foods, my local store is now stocking in that direction and are now doing a lot of Halal foods, l asked why, and l was told that they are now selling for the Polish and Asain communities. what do you think.

Firstly I've never heard of a shop that has only stocked English food. I know many that seem to specialise in British food but none that discriminate against us Celts.
Secondly they are businesses, they will sell what customers want to buy. If they have lots of Asian and Polish customers who wanted their own sort of foodstuff don't you think it makes good business sense to cater for them?

I've noticed that - they don't stock good old British foods like curry, chow mein, spaghetti bolognese, etc, etc.

and pizza.
p.s. Arthur - Does New Zealand lamb count as funny foreign food? Or is it just the food of Asian countries and Poland you have a problem with?

Re: New changes to our shopping life
My only issue with that is Halal is said to increase animal suffering as the animals are not stunned before slaughter (which is against the welfare of animals act, but like everything else religious it gets an exemption).

Re: New changes to our shopping life
Tescos are by far the worst. Even their microwave frozen meals are going all foreign. Who wants bloody mexican chilli and Thai noodles. I just stick to the British ones like Chicken Curry and Lasagne.

Yup.
It could have been an interesting thread about how our diets have changed over the years, how diverse the range of food now available to us is, the impact on the environment of importing food.... etc but that might have upset those people who eat Polish halal foods.

oh God.. the sarcasm in here.... it's suffocating me... need to get out....
on the flip side, find a straight stretch of road and put your foot down til you hit 88mph. hopefully you'll jump back to 2009 and things will all seem normal.

Well, if we wanted an interesting thread about how the diet of the average Britain has changed over the last 50 years, I'd suggest a move to Lifestyle....

Re: New changes to our shopping life
Arthur in Newcastle we have Polish food shops, loads of Asian food shops and Jewish ones and all sorts - it's just the way of life now so your gonna have to accept it sooner or later.
We even have a Polish pub (which used to be a decent pub once but that's a story for another night)
