Just a couple of points from me watching it so far.
she said "the blue eyed white folk are going to find out what it feels like to be something other than white in the UK"
and the one woman said "you're assuming they've got something to learn, you're assuming they're racist. we could be racist"

obviously brown and blue eyes were intentional to create a whites only group.

I watched for about 3minutes. The way she spoke to that young guy was enough for me. I would have walked out at that point. I've seen these so called mind benders many times.

Well I watched all of it. I must say I was expecting a subtle twist in her logic but as it progressed that didn't come.

I'm also confused about what the exercise was for. At the beginning it seemed like an exercise to educate people about discrimination, but the voice over kept saying that "the test reveals more racism". Once you reach a point that even to doubt racism is itself racist you end up in an inescapable guilt.

The exercise seems based on the American racism in the 50s rather than the more subtle British racism of today. Which is probably why it rubbed people up the wrong way.

I'm reminded of an experiment that discovered that people would shock each other to death as long as the "tester" or person in authority told them to. The idea was that the subject should rebel against the tyrannical tester, I was expecting this to be similar. I was wondering if the people who left at the beginning would be heralded as the moral. But it is an american experiment all the subtlety of a jackhammer.

I watched the programme when it aired, and I wondered what anything of it had to do with racism. It seemed to me it was an 'experiment' in social psychology, looking at how people deal with being put in a majority/minority position, and how well they reacted to this horrible woman depending on the group they were in.

It's a bit like the Mllgram experiments really.

This seems to be basic human nature. This is beyond concious thought. There will allways be a minority to oppone, and a majority to advocate. Whether the majority is more numerous or more powerful it will allways seem to be the best route for the 'herd'.
