Fireworks 2009

It's just dawned on me that I've not heard a single firework going off so far this season.

When I consider in recent years how we would be having increasing numbers of single fireworks being let off in the run up to and in the aftermath of Bonfire Night I'm wondering what has changed.It was quiet round here last year as well.It was like a plague in previous years though.

Is it just in my area? Have you all been jumping out of your skins for weeks already or have you also had nice quiet firework free evenings?

Quiet round here too. The only fireworks I've heard this year have been from the local Sikh temple, on one of their religious days.

It's the new laws and the fact that they're enforcing them more... With restrictions as to who can set off a public firework, more checking of the retailers and also restrictions as to when they can be sold..

Timber (our 5yo GSD) goes potty every year with fireworks (he sees them as a danger to the house so constantly tries to defend witht he usual pacing around and barking) but this year (and to some extent the last) it's been limited to a great extent compared to years before

I noticed Tesco's aren't selling Fireworks until the 21st of this month. Leaves 2 weeks between then and 5th November.

Someone set one off round our way at 3am the other morning, it was one of them display things which went on forever. Apart from that it's been a quiet one.

Some friends of ours had a diwali party 2 weeks ago which ended in them setting off quite a few fireworks. I did notice that the fireworks actually seemed less louder than normal. Visually ok to look at, but no real bangs or loud whistles.

All fireworks should be banned from public sale and only sold for display use only as to many morons still purchase them for fun where people live.

Then if caught with illegal fireworks they should be treated as any other criminal handling an offensive weapon.

Been saying this for years. One certainty every year is that some poor kid is going to be maimed or killed because of fireworks in the hands of amatuers.
