Don't take much notice on recycling and stuff, but they're probably thinking about the big fine they'll get (if they get into power) for too much waste.

I remember when recycling started and it was a fun thing for families and schools to do. then it became more and more compulsory, to the point of you getting fined if you don't play that game anymore.

Actually I don't mind it PROVIDED they make the process as painless as possible by providing the kerbside collection. They do that and I reckon everyone will get behind it.However getting the police involved in such issues is as you say reprehensible. The police have enough to do..and I'd rather my local tax went on the actual process of recycling, not on jobs worths checking through my bins.

Re: where there's muck there's brass

We seem to have a good set up here in Trafford, having kerbside collections of Paper and cardboard; plastic, glass and aluminium; garden waste and the remaining going as household waste. The only problem is having 4 dustbins. They cut the size of the household dustbin to encourage people to redirect recyclable items into their other bins and, although people grumbled at first, driving around you do notice that most houses have the required bins out on the pavement each week. We also have an option to buy much reduced compost bins and I believe the take up of those has been very good as the smallest of them is only about £5.
