Re: I am moving to Australia ....
Catherine Tate spent a lot of time extracting the urine out of ginger haired people. That did not upset me . Why is is a problem?

Re: I am moving to Australia ....
I never oppressed a coloured person . No one I know was involved in slavery because I believe it was ablished a long time ago. Also the oppression in a good portion of the US has diminished unless you are in the deep south. In fact Are you coloured btw ? I do not spose you have red hair so I guess you do not know about the persecution I suffered lol
Sorry but I see it as harmless humour think you need a chill pill maybe you should go see your favorite dealer he may be colored so he may understand your pain

Re: I am moving to Australia ....
I did notice there was a difference in the shade of make up used by the lead singer Mark Jackson. Could it be he's suffered some major skin disorder in the intervening 20 years.
IMHO anybody who finds a skit like this offensive should try unplucking their head from their ar$e.
It wasn't a stereotypical race attack on anybody. How can you impersonate/ pay tribute to the Jackson 5 without makeup and an afro wig.... unless you already look like that it's impossible.

Re: I am moving to Australia ....
ok lets all live in the past why dont we? Whites were sold into slavery too Christians were thrown to the Lions but I do not hold a grudge with Italians.
I never tortured and killed anyone let alone for the skin colour so it does not apply to me and pretty much everyone else. Some Americans migth well feel guilty for how their forefathers treated blacks but imo there is no need

Still doesn't alter people being killed because their skin is the wrong colour (and yes, I know that happens to all colours including whites). Never heard of any instances where someone was killed for being ginger.

Re: I am moving to Australia ....
lots of people are killed for stupid reasons we butchered loads of Indians ( Asia) in more recent history I believe than slavery in the US but its all past when is the time to move on from that? its only a bit of fun no different imo than someone telling Irish jokes or Catherine Tate taking the rise out of red heads. Yes blacks were persecuted but its 2009 not 1899

Re: I am moving to Australia ....
True, and I have to admit, I thought the Catherine Tate ginger sketches took the mickey out of both racism and the reaction to it well.

Nobody has said, suggested or implied you should think it's a problem or be offended.
I told you to educate yourself in order to comprehend perspectives other than your own (yes, they do exist) and why it clearly is a problem for some. Whether you've personally oppressed anybody, blah blah blah is neither here nor there. It's not difficult to be able to understand opinions without agreeing with them and the world does not revolve around you.
Yes, i am "coloured" and i don't find it offensive, it's just plain crass and unfunny (i hope your head isn't exploding right now). I'm also not narrow minded or self-obsessed enough to think that means others shouldn't or couldn't.

- It wasn't a "stereotypical" race attack? The whole blackface/minstrel etc stuff is about as stereotypically racist as you can get in the USA. Hence why the white American found it abhorrent and seemingly nobody else there did.
Even if this wasn't a stereotype; your sentence implies you think it was a race attack in some way.
- Not much of a tribute to an African-American band, when they clearly know **** all about African-American history.
- Tribute acts (the respectable ones) don't change their appearance to resemble the act, other than clothes etc perhaps. Just because the Jackson 5 were black, doesn't mean tribute bands need to be - in any way. The Jackson 5's race has zero to do with their music, certainly not to the extent that it needs to be mimicked in order to pay tribute.
- They were in blackface. They weren't trying to look like the Jackson 5, otherwise they'd have used brown facepaint and done it properly (again; it was blackface, literally only their face was even black, nothing else). When was the last time you saw an African-American who was as black as this text?
- The fact the group is called the Jackson Jive (African-American vernacular from the days of blackface, minstrel shows etc) speaks volumes about their mindset.
In conclusion, to suggest they are paying tribute and you can't do that without make-up (more specifically blackface) and an afro-wig strongly suggests somebody else needs to remove their head from their arse.
In case you don't bother clicking the links, from Wikipedia:

Blackface, in the narrow sense, is a style of theatrical makeup that originated in the United States, used to take on the appearance of certain archetypes of American racism, especially those of the "happy-go-lucky darky on the plantation" or the "dandified coon ".[1] Blackface in the broader sense includes similarly stereotyped performances even when they do not involve blackface makeup.

I'd like to think their act was meant to be ironic and purposely over-the-top, but unfortunately i expect it's just foolishness.

why would my head be exploding?
I am sure the act was meant in good faith as a simple pee take
Something is only racist if it is perceived to be so. Did you feel the same about Robert Downey jnrs role in Tropic Thunder?
Imo racism is all in the attitude of those being accused. If it is done with hatred or a negative emotion then thats one thing but if its done light heartedly its another
For example when Jade Goddy had her go at Shilpa Shetti (spelling) that was racism cuz it was done with hate but when that other woman got kicked off for calling someone the n word that was not racism as there was no malice it was simply a poor choice of words
By the way Bert Williams a coloured man who performed Blackface didnt seem to mind and did really well out of it ( from your link )
