Low energy bulbs - a little bit extra
In my local Tesco today and found they have a new line in these energy-saving lights. They now do a 23watt which according to the marketing-speak is supposed to be equivalent to 120w. To my eyes they are more like a real 100w output and I can actually read by them, which is nice.
Even better, they're up for £1 a piece at the moment.

Re: Low energy bulbs - a little bit extra
Our local Morrisons are doing the 11w at 5 for 50p, and the 8w in a pack of two (but buy one pack, get two packs free) for 60p (60p for 6 bulbs).

Thanks for the tip. I've got 10-foot ceilings in some of my rooms and the regular bulbs just don't hack it.
Thanks foreverwar, one room has a ceiling light that takes 5 bulbs, and I can just about get away with 11w in those so I may well make that trip to Morrisons..

Re: Low energy bulbs - a little bit extra
Just got back from the big tesco extra in MK and they're now doing 8w(40) 11w(60) and 20w(100) bulbs on a special offer of any 5 for a quid That's a saving of £4 on the 20w bulbs

Re: Low energy bulbs - a little bit extra
Check out your local Somerfields they were doing Philips bulbs at £2.40 a pop or you can get 5 for 20p and no that is not a misprint as I got 10 for 40p.

Our local Homebase is selling an Eon pack starter pack of about 6 varying bulbs for £4.95.

Re: Low energy bulbs - a little bit extra
I find the advertised light figures are a little high for the bulbs rating. The 20w bulb is more like a 60w, rather than a 100w. Perhaps the 23w is better, however, I have the 30w, "Instant" cool white bulb, which I think is more compatible with a standard 100w. However, price wise they are as cheap as chips.

Re: Low energy bulbs - a little bit extra
The "sticks" style can be found super-cheap
http://www.morrisons.co.uk/Offers/Home--Leisure/
Morrisons "when it's gone it's gone", 6 pack of 11 or 20W at 20p or Phillips 11W at 5 for 20p
Harder to find good deals on are the bulb-style (seen them in a 99p store - 99p for 1 bulb shape or for two 5-packs of the sticks style) - Bulb shape is essential for bulb gripping shades.
Also seen candle shape in some online stores at about a pound a piece (in packs).
Hard to find cheap - golfball style.
