Moonbow

I thought I'd share a photo with you all.

I snapped this last night, about 8pm, as the moon was rising over the hill at the back of our house. It's a moonbow, caused by the light of the moon being scattered by a rain shower that was falling over the northern end of Loch Lomond at the time.

The first picture is as it came out of the camera with a 15 second exposure, the second is enhanced so you can see more detail.

Enjoy.

Re: Moonbow

Surely it's still a rainbow otherwise its daytime counterpart would be a sunbow?!

Regardless of my pendantry that's a quality shot

A moon-rainbow I suppose, but moonbow sounds more mysterous. And that's what the Great God Wikipedia calls them.

Re: Moonbow

Random thought.

The name Moonbow reminds me of Moongate. I always wanted one because they sounded so romantic.

Re: Moonbow

Moonbow is, as far as I recall, also known as a lunar rainbow.

Nice shot.

Re: Moonbow

The moon has been particulary bright this week.. I got up at 5:30 Sunday morning to watch the Japanese GP and wondered why the livingroom was bathed in bright light only to realize that it was the full moon..

Nice one Chris

There are times when I suspect that you do not have a single poetic bone in your body my Dear zing.
