They've moved the speed cameras
There's 4 sets of speed camera's I drive through nearly everyday, and every single one of them they have moved further on up the road. (about 50 feet) all 4 of them have been moved because they weren't getting any revenue where they were because people got used to them being there.
It's not about accidents, it's about the money.
they should do away with points soon because in a few years nearly all motorists will be banned.

Hang on, people got used to them being there, therefore I assume speeding was no longer a problem?
Fancy that, speed cameras actually stopping people from speeding, who'da thunk it...
And in the new location I bet it's where drivers usually then speed up. Which, assuming they beak the limit is the reason for speed cameras....

Re: They've moved the speed camera's
At least one insurance company now ignores the first 6 points rather than 3 if they are speed related, simply because so many drivers they consider to be very low risk are getting them so they're no longer an indication of a bad driver.
Come on Russ, you know what he meant, people get used to where cameras are, so slow down for the camera, pass it and then speed up, often faster than they would if the cameras were not there as a way of getting one up on the authorities.
This is why it's been shown that the light up speed limit signs are much more effective as they're a gentle reminder that you're going too fast with no need to feel agrieved.

They were put in them specific locations because of 'accidents' there's no 'accidents' happening now, and there's nobody getting flashed.
nobody getting flashed means no money coming in.
moving them further on means good chance of camera flashing and money coming in again.
everybody speeds back up after a speed camera, usually back up to 34/44 from 28/38

Re: They've moved the speed camera's
But if in the original location there are now no 'accidents' and no instances of excessive speeding (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "nobody's getting flashed") then surely the cameras have done their job?
I'm no fan of GATSOs but in many cases (as it would appear in your situation) they serve a legitimate (if dual) purpose.

Re: They've moved the speed camera's
If they are working and there are no accidents, then why move them?
If it's about accidents, and they're doing their job, surely they should not be moved?
If they are moved, then how can it be for road safety reasons when there are no accidents?
If it's not about road safety reasons, then it has to be about money as cameras are costly to maintain (hence why at least one city in the US has removed many of them)

If you break the rules why moan about getting caught?
If you can't see a large box stuck to a pole at the side of the road with hi-viz markings on its back you really should be having a word with yourself and thinking "If I missed that would I miss a pedestrian walking out between parked cars?"

But you assume that everybody speeds back up again, which they do as it's like human nature to do. it's not excessive speeding up.
The camera's are doing their job, but as a result there's no revenue so that's why they feel the need to move them further on.

I'm not moaning about getting caught, but I'll pretend that I am because I speed everywhere, just to make your assumption fit

There's double yellow lines and no stopping, where all 4 are.

Re: They've moved the speed camera's
Near us, a section of the A48M out of the city is to be downgraded to 50mph as the hard shoulder has been turned into a bus lane for a new park and ride route that will make the council a fortune (so they predict).
Road works have temporarily dropped the limit to 40mph (even though no works are seen to be happening day-in day-out). I regularly get passed by dozens of vehicles doing the full original 70mph, and taxis doing the same up the bus lane, so the council is looking at "average speed cameras" for the whole stretch.
So from a safe road with a 70mph limit, we'll have a 50mph road loaded with speed cameras.... a great way to try for revenue....

And no-one ever stops on double yellow lines with the universal parking lights on

I've got no doubts that many GATSOs serve a dual purpose. But by your own admission they've made that bit of road safer (or 'slower') so I really can't see the problem there.
If they've been moved to a location where drivers are known for speeding (no idea where you get your estimated speed from, would love to find out though) then....that's normally why the cameras are put up.
It's annoying - I don't like GATSOs, I admit I go over the limit but do try all the time to keep to the limit however if I get caught by a camera, cop or cause an accident it's my fault and no-one else's. Not the police, not the council - just the one doing the speeding.

Re: They've moved the speed camera's
Simple fact.. If you don't speed then you'll never ever care where the speed cameras are

Re: They've moved the speed camera's
last week i went to Norwich using my sat nav , it has built in speed camera alerts in the form of an audible bell and a visual warning on the screen , i had to turn the sound off as the constant bell ring was driving me nuts ,there's more cameras than you can shake a stick at, total over kill. i agree with xacc the light up speed sign is better way to slow people down .

I've never seen more than 1 car parked up at these locations. you need 2 to be able to step out between parked cars.
I'm just bringing facts into the discussion, and not the usual assumptions.
