Re: Support Affirmative Action?
Discrimination weather negative or positive I believe is wrong. The best candidate available should get the job no matter what colour, race, sex, orientation, religeon etc. The same should apply for opportunities like going to university, all should have an equal chance with the decision being made on ability not "making up the numbers" Setting quota's is just PC daftness. It results in the attitude that "They only got the job because we needed a one armed, deaf, black lesbian to make up the quota"

Re: Support Affirmative Action?
I believe in equality of opportunity, not affirmative action (but I can understand why some people who believe they have been disadvantaged may do so).

Re: Support Affirmative Action?
Do I believe Affirmative action is a good thing? No.
The reasons why are simple.
First, people should be rewarded based upon merit, not skin colour, gender or sexuality. It may be that the best person is a black lesbian, but it may not.
Second, it leads to doubts about whether someone who is a member of a minority and did happen to be the best person, actually got the job because of their colour, gender or sexuality. This isn't nice for those who got the job on merit.
I think for the Human race to progress, we need to stop seeing colour, nationality, gender or sexuality, and start seeing other people for what they *are*.

Re: Support Affirmative Action?
You can walk into some job interviews and just KNOW you won't get the job when you see persons of certain groups about to be interviewed too.
It stinks.

That, to me, is wrong. Not what you say (I know that sort of stuff goes on), but the fact it goes on.
When someone is picked for a job, they should be picked because they can do it, not because they are a minority. I'll admit, there are jobs where being in a minority helps (primarily jobs where you are dealing with minorities so it would be helpful to understanding them), but in general it is bad.

Re: Support Affirmative Action?
It happens. Jobcentres and government offices all do it. I don't think it's right because it's just so obviously PC.
