Re: Stopping smoking support.
thank you yup taste, smelling things has improved .. that could work either way tbh giving up smoking getting rid of all the crap inside. head feels lighter if that makes any sense. lungs are clearing but I'm not coughing anything up if that makes any sense as well.

Re: Stopping smoking support.
Finally grew a pair and decided to stop tonight, Been about 2 hours since my last smoke but my life demands this change.
I work in Door Supervision and Close Protection which is naturally physically demanding and I really want to get into shape more. I have smoked for about 4-5 years and had no problems with the sports I took part in whilst being a smoker (MMA & Football) But as soon as I moved into Security I just dropped the sports and lazed about whilst not working. I used to be able to run as far as I needed and at a good pace but now I just feel empty after about 1/2 a mile.
Hoping if I bin the smoking I can breathe fresh air into my lungs and get back into shape and possibly look at getting back into a sport.
Going cold-turkey so hoping if I concentrate on my goal my mind will stay set.

Re: Stopping smoking support.
Well as far as I've observed giving up is at 3/4 of the battle won.It is determination that mostly gets people through. The various props(patches, gum, medication) to help are just that and eventually you have to do without them.
So going cold turkey may be the best if you think you can do it.However IF you do slip don't give up because it is just a blip and you can get back on track.
Which ever way you do it good luck.I hope you succeed. Please come back and let us know how you are managing.

Re: Stopping smoking support.
I got tablets from the Smoking Cessation Nurse. Haven't smoked for almost 3 months now. Gradually using fewer of the things each day and went from the 4mg to the 2mg within a fortnight. Smoked for more than 25 years so pretty happy that I've managed to do this

Good on yer!!
Cold turkey is the way to go. IMO. A bit like rock climbing without any ropes.
That shows your commitment and with commitment that strong I am confident you will find becoming a non-smoker an easier task that you first imagined.

Deciding to give up smoking is at least half the battle won. In fact the only way to have any chance at all is to want do it for 'you'. Cold Turkey is the harder option but having done it that way myself ( 40/60 a day habit) I can tell you that the feelings of satisfaction and achievement was great. If you can manage it, try to save some of the money you would have spent each day then you can treat your self to some thing really indulgent later in the year.

3 months. Very well done. Having smoked for 25 years that must have been a hard habit to break.

Re: Stopping smoking support.
Since we're getting to that time of the year where people consider making resolutions I thought it might be an idea for me to post an update which, combined with the other success stories in this thread, might prove to be a bit of an incentive to those hoping to give up smoking.
Here are my stats as of today (24/12/2012).
Hello MrAngryGB!
