Kretek (pronounced /ˈkriːtɛk/) are cigarettes made with a blend of tobacco, cloves and other flavors. The word "kretek" itself is an onomatopoetic term for the crackling sound of burning cloves. Haji Jamahri, a resident of Kudus, Java, created kreteks in the early 1880s as a means to deliver the eugenol of cloves to the lungs, as it was thought to help asthma. Jamahri believed the eugenol cured his chest pains and he started to market his invention to the village, but he died before he could mass market it. M. Nitisemito took his place and began to commercialize the new cigarettes. Today, kretek manufacturers directly employ over 180,000 people in Indonesia and an additional 10 million indirectly.[1]
Partly due to favorable taxation compared to "white" cigarettes,[2] kreteks are by far the most widely-smoked form of cigarettes in Indonesia, where about 90% of smokers usually smoke kreteks.

Re: Stopping smoking support.
after having a cardiac stent fitted and the cause being my smoking habit i was told to give them up by the dr's, it took me another year to get in the right frame of mind to even attempt to stop, i bought some patches and made the decision to stop last feb 1st, it was bloody hard work but sheer determination and the patches did work for me ive now been smoke free for 12 months and cant see me going back to them. the first month was the worst but then it got gradually easier, keep it up it is worth it in the end.

2½ weeks in, and seem to be doing alright - mind you, that may well have something to do with trying to sort the mother-in-laws house out, so I haven't had time for any

Good luck to you all who are trying to give up the stinky drug.
I had to get pregnant to give up, the thought of a baby suffering from my desire for a drag on a fag put a stop to me!

Do they offer that service through the NHS or did you have to go private?
