How would you change this country?
Me I'd go for this.
Deport all illegal immigrants.
Ban immigration and strip VISAS to 30 days at a time and work VISAS to 6 months 3 year ban if the rules are breached.
Bring back the death penalty.
Scrap the human rights act.
Give police back the power of free corporal punishment.
Give school teachers back the power of free corporal punishment and bring back the cane.
Give parents back the power of free corporal punishment for there kids.
send under 18s to national service instead of jail on a 2nd offence.
NHS Get rid of all the clip board Johnny's and Management .
Councils, De power the Councils and strip them of their ability to demand council tax from people and throw them in prison for it.
Benefits Re-empower the job centre to do what they did best a few years back before the Govt messed with it, getting people into work!
Religion (Never seemed to be a big problem till we invaded Iraq) (not sure again)
Discuss.

Seriously though some of those ideas sound good to me. Some others no so much, you can't just shut the borders completely, some immigration is necessary if only to ensure there isn't a huge outbreak of banjo-playing and lack of fingers in generations to come.

Cant argue with that. Sadly, people are "Too Enlightened" nowadays. You couldn't change a 5 pound note without years of debates.

hmm but we need more immigration unless we get every one back to bed to knock out babies or we wont be able to afford the pensions bill
Bring back the death penalty.
strange those counties with it tend to have higher offender rates than we do especially when it comes to murder
Scrap the human rights act.
another strange one as most british law well pre-dating the act give greater rights than this act grants any how
Give police back the power of free corporal punishment.
Give school teachers back the power of free corporal punishment and bring back the cane.
no just daft
Give parents back the power of free corporal punishment for there kids.
send under 18s to national service instead of jail on a 2nd offence.
parents can use it now no law against it
unless you think they should be able to beat them black and blue because they get on their nerves
NHS Get rid of all the clip board Johnny's and Management .
now there i agree with you
Councils, De power the Councils and strip them of their ability to demand council tax from people and throw them in prison for it.
i agree that know one should be put in prison for owing money ( i tend to disagree even if they stole it lol whole other thread ) but councils and the council tax i think is the best tax and the best way to run local areas for the tax we pay we get police education bins collected etc pretty good value for money
Benefits Re-empower the job centre to do what they did best a few years back before the Govt messed with it, getting people into work!
they used to find people jobs ? hmm well if it was work then i agree
Religion (Never seemed to be a big problem till we invaded Iraq) (not sure again)
hmm nothing to do with religion more to do with money i hazard to suggest
Discuss.

Countries with the death penalty tend to have higher murder rates... So, no, I don't believe the Death Penalty works.

Not a good idea. That act guarantees rights for *all* of us, and prevents a lot of innocent people suffering. Possibly you or me.

Depends how that corporate punishment is used.

I don't actually think Religion causes any more problems now than it did 10, 20 or 30 years ago. I know we have had the 9/11 WTC disaster and and the 7/7 bombings in London, but apart from that, how many *actual* terrorist incidents have we had since 2001? One? Two? We had more incidents than that in the 80s.

Re: How would you change this country?
Some more ideas.
Public flogging for cheeking your betters
The Poorhouse
Deportation for stealing a loaf of bread
Drowning witches (including suspected, just to be sure)
Stretching on the rack
Hung, drawn and quartered
Trial by ordeal
Branding of adulterers
Burning at the stake
Bastinado

Re: How would you change this country?
And while we are at, don't forget about introducing Proportional Representation and reducing the number of MP's by 50%.

Re: How would you change this country?
If I could change the country, I would
Reduce subcontracting.
I don't have anything against subcontracting as such (used properly it can be a useful tool to a company), but there are situations where our current trend of subcontracting *everything* has lead to companies spending more time and money blaming other companies for problems than they are sorting the problems. It can also make it harder for the consumer to complain if they should need to.
Stop outsourcing to other countries
I do not believe that, in the long term, our current level of outsourcing is good for the country. It can also make things a lot harder for individual consumers (look at the complaints on this forum about VM's indian call centres) as the fact that the person answering probably only speaks English as a second language (and heavily accented at that), can introduce a big, and totally unnecessary obstacle to communication.
There are more, but I can't think of them at the moment.
