Getting a house cleared in France

Due to the death of a relative in central France we now need to clear out the house and fetch all the stuff back to the UK.

Pressure of work here and a bad back makes it impossible for me to do the work myself.

Does anyone have experience of a removal company that will bring back a load from France and not charge arm+leg?

Any ideas what something like this would cost? I appreciate it's a variable dependant on quantity of stuff etc but I'm just trying to get an idea if it's affordable.

You will need a firm that does international removals. One way of keeping the cost down (potentially) is if you don't have a fixed moving date. When my wife moved over here, we had a removal company collect her stuff at the other end. Since we didn't need it at a fixed date (and there wasn't that much to move), they kept it in storage until they had a job close to where we lived, and put her stuff in with the other job. This meant they could do two jobs on one trip over the Channel. If I recall correctly, it was in storage for a couple of weeks, but they charged us considerably less than they would have charged for a regular job.

Also: There's no need to restrict yourself to UK companies. It might be cheaper to employ a French company, particularly if the above applies.

why dont you pay a couple of mates and higher a 7.5 tonner and go over with them to supervise?

Too much stuff going on here right now. I can't get away.

This is time-critical as well as we now have a tenant interested in taking the house once it is cleared.
