Actually a lot if this isn't really "new". When legionella became a big thing many years ago, there was a lot of talk then about the need to sterilise air conditioning cooling towers, keep hot water at 60deg C (pretty damned hot but it killed bacteria), etc. Shower systems in changing rooms were a concern because water could cool in the pipework leading to potential breading and then ingestation when they wer firsst used.
