Painting and decorating advice!

I'm painting the inside of our wooden porch. Previously it was all cuprinol stained wood, but I'm trying to make the inside of it white, so it looks like part of the inside of the house rather than part of the outside. However, after a basecoat and a single emulsion coat, cuprinol brown is leeching through in a number of places.

My question is this: will this eventually stop if I use 1 or 2 further emulsion coats or is it likely to bleed through forever? Would a dilute PVA solution prior to the next coat help to prevent further leeching, or do I need to think of something else?

Pic attached for you all to point and laugh at. Any help most gratefully received.

Hmm! Why not add some PVC to the next layer of paint?

I've had some success in the past with stains that leech through by starting with an oil-based paint such as a white undercoat to seal the surface.

You can buy special stain-blocker paint (usually used to cover mould stains). I'm not sure if it's an outside grade though.

Because I think the colour will leach through the PVA/paint mixture while it's still wet. I need to put a sealing coat on it before I put the final coat of emulsion on, it's only a question of what material to use for sealing.

I have some oil-based undercoat, but not a lot left. I have a tonne of PVA and I'd prefer to use that if the general consensus is that it would be effective. We started the porch job intending to complete it with materials already in stock, so to speak.

Re: Painting and decorating advice!

Wash down with a bleach solution first then use multi surface primer then your PVA emulsion after this. Unless you use an undercoat or primer you will be stuck with the stain leaching through.

The multi-surface primer worked well on stained tongue & groove we have in the kitchen (tried to miss this step in the bathroom without success).
