Razor in cabin bag?
I'm flying to Berlin for a work-related meeting in a couple of weeks, returning the next morning. In the past I've taken a small bag as luggage, but this can mean long delays at either end waiting for it to appear on the carousel.
I figure I can pack most of what I need in a medium-sized laptop bag, but I'm not sure what to do about my razor. Even a cheap disposable is banned by security (although I don't see how that could be used to hijack an airplane!)
So, can anyone offer advice?

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
Buy a cheap plastic disposable at the other end somewhere?
Either that or get an electric one and hope it doesn't rip your skin off like most of them do.

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
Ring up the airline and ask them what's the best way, some will allow you to hand it to the staff and it'll get put away in the cockpit or other secure area and then handed back to you after you land.. But be aware that not all airlines will do that.

It would be difficult to go shopping (my boss would have something to say about it!), but I'll contact the hotel to see if they sell them.

I'm definitely a "wet shave" guy.

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
If you're into S&M then a pair of tweezers should be OK past security

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
A travel iron singes growth nicely. The resulting blister give you a reasonable excuse for not shaving for a while.

A search of the BAA website revealed the following:
Quote:
The following items must not be packed in your hand luggage. They must be placed in your hold baggage. If these items are discovered in your hand luggage they will be confiscated and not returned:- Scissors (except where both blades are round-ended or shorter than 3cm).
- Razor blades (razors that have the blade set into a plastic moulding are allowed, but razors that can be opened and the razor blade removed are prohibited)....

So it looks like I'll be OK! Thank you all for your help (well, almost all...)

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
Any half decent hotel usually provide toiletries and and disposable razors for free.

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
won't there be a boots airside at the airport (or alternatively the German equivalent at Berlin airport) for you to purchase a disposable?

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
Often when I have been in hotels they have a vending machine like the ones for drinks and chocolate but it has razors, mini shapoo bottles, tooth brushes, etc.

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
Generally speaking there is a Boots airside where you can buy toiletries, and also as pointed out above, most business class hotel receptions will provide items that you have accidentally missed out the luggage such as razors.

Re: Razor in cabin bag?
I'm not sure you can buy razors in the airside branches. I'd say your options are:
1. 'Accidentally' leave one in your toiletries bag and risk having a more thorough search at security if they find it.
2. Buy one when you get to Berlin - if your boss objectives to 5 mins at a chemists then start working on your CV
3. Pay over the odds at the hotel for a teeny weeny one that'll fall apart after 2 days.
