Renault Megane Issues
I have an issue with my 02 1.6 16v Megane which I was wondering if anyone else had or can shed some light on.
Approx 3 months ago I dislodged one of the rear sonic sensors and it had to be replaced. This meant that I had to disable this everytime I locked it. This was replaced and has been working fine - tbh I think this is a red herring, but some worthwhile background info.
About a week ago the trip mile meter thing and onboard computer (average MGP, speed, fuel used etc) resets whenever I start the car. It seems to be spreading, cause I also have the following issues.......
- Window (driver and passenger) do not go fully down on one press. I have to keep pressing it and it goes down approx 4cm before I need to press the button again.
- Starting seems slighly more of an issue. The starting process seems to have a small pause in the middle before it finally gets going (its never not started yet).
- Alarm has now started to go off when locked normally (so having to disable sonic sensor).
Seems to me to be electics related, but I am no means an expert. Any thoughts ?

Re: Renault Megane Issues
i've said it before here and I'll say it again - French cars are renowned for electrical issues. avoid them! too late for you i know, but for anyone else, avoid French cars!!!
(sorry, not actually helping you, I know!)

Re: Renault Megane Issues
Sounds like the voltage is dipping too much when the starter is turned. Could be time to replace the battery or perhaps there's a dodgy connection nearby - look especially for rusty earths.

Re: Renault Megane Issues
As the current owner of 4 french cars, and out of the 11 cars I've owned only the first wasn't french, I have to disagree with the electrical issues stereotype :p
Although I can't give solutions (my Megane had no problems at all, but then it was a diesel), here's a few possibilities:
The windows probably need their anti-pinch sensor resetting.
The starting problem could be plugs, sensors, injectors, ht leads... It's petrol so there's so much that could be at fault. Another reason to buy a diesel next time
With the sonics, it's often down to a spider setting up home in one of them.
I'd suggest finding a reputable indipendant to check for ECU errors, or find out how much your local main stealer charges.
Then join one of the Renault or French Car Forums and post there.

Re: Renault Megane Issues
I posted on the Megane forum too and they suggested a new battery which I tried today. Seems to have done the trick.
Had to re-enter radio code and do 'the window trick' and it seems fine now.

Rubbish, I've had 10 French cars (3 x Renault Clio, 2 x Renault Megane, 3 x Peugeot 207, 2 x Peugeot 307) since 2001 and had one fault with one that could possibly be called an electrical problem, with the indicator stalk. That was with one of the 307s back in 2002.
On the other hand, Italian & Spanish cars have had a reputation for being rust buckets with bad electrics. I had a Fiat Punto years ago that had a recurring electrical problem with one of the rear light clusters, which wasn't solved with a full replacement of the light unit. This car also had other problems with fuses blowing at random intervals. I had to keep a full set of fuses, because odd one would go every once in a while.
I understand that Fiat has had to do a lot of work to overcome it's old image as being rust buckets and obviously the fact Seat was bought by VW meant their image went up. I once test drove a nearly new Seat back in about 1997 and on the test drive the electric window mechanism went and the window fell down into the door. The salesman quickly pointed out he'd have that fixed if I bought it, but needless to say I made my excuses and left.

Reason: Remembered I had another Clio.

Re: Renault Megane Issues
French cars are known for electrical issues, but only when they get older, like my 1997 Peugeot 306 and my 1993 306. My 1997 has been fine so far *touch wood* but my 1993 had quite a few issues.

Was it www.renaultforums.co.uk ?? If not, can i suggest you make your way over there, with over 30k members (me being one of them), I'm sure you'll get all the help you require.
I also had a troublesome Megane 1.6, you'll find many of the problems have been more than covered on there
