I need to apply for a job at a company.

I'm about to send them a Email after being told by a guy who works there that there might be some vacancies becoming available very soon, how the hell do I start the Email and what the hell do I say? My mind has gone blank.

Do you have the name of a contact or head of HR?

Re: I need to apply for a job at a company.

If the guy who already works there has a responsible position with the firm and you know for sure that 1) his employers would value his opinion and 2) he has no objection to you doing so, I would mention that you are sending the e-mail on his prompting.

If he has told you he is the CEO I would be a bit dubious about his true position though.

When he finished University my son sent loads of e-mails to firms who he thought could possibly employ him and, after briefly introducing himself, usually said that he had been looking at firms in our locality who might be interested in someone with his qualifications and enthusiasm and could they please keep him in mind if any employment vacancies came up in the future.

Rather than have your e-mail drift around the firm I would seriously consider sending a letter that you can send directly to the Recruitment Team.

Don't email - phone.

Find out from your friend who the person to speak to is, find out how they'd react to a direct contact, find out if your friend is happy to be named in the call.

Re: I need to apply for a job at a company.

Depending on how well you know your friend how about sending a copy of your CV to him and get him to forward it onto the manager of the department recruiting. If he likes what he see's then he could push it through to the HR dept. Obviously such a referral should see you jump the queue ahead of the replies to Jobs@...co.uk and should get you an interval (assuming skills, knowledge, experience etc are relevant).

Workd for me in the past and I have also passed on friends CV on other occasions. In the current climate you can't under estimate the value of networking!!
