Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

Had a loose tooth for a while now and i can move it back and forth, side to side and even twist it, but if i try and pull it out, it just won`t budge and hurts like buggery!.! Any ideas anyone, i don`t want to pay a dentist £75 quid to do it. Its one of the teeth third tooth to the left of my front teeth.
Or do i just get a pair of molegrips and a slide hammer on it?

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

Ask someone else to pull it for you, you will never get the angle right doing it yourself and if you only manage to pull the tooth and not all the roots you will more than likely end up with a bill that is more than £75.

But yeah it's worth diy'n it with a slide hammer if you can't find anyone, even though I am sure 118 118 will have Frankie Fraser's number.

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

IIRC 46 quid for an extraction from an NHS dentist if you can find one, free if your on the "rock n roll"
Get it done properly if not you run the risk of infection which could lead to sepsis.

Dont know how close these are to you.

If it hurts like hell then there is a high probability its already infected.

Buy a big bag of toffee..... that'll shift it and the taste will help cope with the pain.

Cheers for the info alferret, only hurts when i try and pull it out.
It`s not infected at all, i just want it out as its affecting the way i talk now.
I`m registered at Antwerp house in Cambridge but i`ll look at a few more possibillities before i go there. Great Dental surgery though i must admit.

Hmmm, 3rd to the left? That sounds like it could be one of the canines. If that's the case it will have a massive long root and will take a heck of a lot of pulling.

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

I broke a tooth on a hard seed in a Tesco Granary loaf.

It was loose for ages and was a nuisance affecting both chewing and speaking.

I was to cowardly to pull it but thankfully it eventually fell out of it's own accord. Shortly after the root came out as well.

So maybe you just need to be patient.

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

Ring around the dentists in the area to see if they do walk in emergency appointments and how much for an extraction.

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

NHS direct online..ask for an emergency dentist, claim you are in great pain and I'm sure they will direct you to an emergency NHS dentist which will be a much cheaper experience.

I had a back molar removed last month and that was an awful experience even under a thoroughly applied local and with an experienced dentist so I reckon getting it sorted BEFORE it decays it better in the long run.

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

An NHS dentist should be able to extract it for you for £45.60 as this would fit nicely into Band 2. However the question of why it is loose in the first place needs answering. Have you widespread gum recession for example?

Tooth extractions are not usually as violent as one would might expect. Usually a circular rocking motion is used once the tooth's ligament has been ruptured.

I would be tempted to see a dentist to not only extract your tooth but to give you an examination. Good teeth should not wobble and you really need to exclude periodontal disease.

I'm not a big fan of the dentists, but go and get it done on the NHS. The last thing is you want an infection after it coming out.

Re: Best way to pull out a loose tooth?

If it's an adult tooth why not try to save it?

If the root has become dislodged after a knock, it can be reset by attaching it to another tooth for a while, If it's shifting due to gum disease, a dentist would be the best way to sort it...

Or be rude to a boxer in the pub... and hope his aim is good..
