Block Paving.
I know there are some members here from the Grimsby / Cleethorpes area and I always think that getting a recommendation is loads better than pot-luck out of the paper.
I need my front garden, all 12*10 of it lol, block paved round the edges, blocked into at least 4 concrete bays and a small 18' front wall taking down so I can park my car on the concrete.
Ta muchly..

Re: Block Paving.
Depending on where you are, you may not be allowed to have solid pavings in your front garden. Planning rules now dictate they need to be permeable to avoid some of the excess rainwater run off leading to flooding risks.

from the "waste" facility near the beach
The good ole - smell of fish from the docks
The 65 million cars stored around the docks
The general "poor" attitude of "some" of the residence

Not all correct - the sewage outfall is no more - and the recession means there are hardly any cars parked up at the docks
We had our drive block paved ages ago, but afaik the company 'Blokkers Paving' I think they are called, are still in business...
Always get more than one quote, though ...

Re: Block Paving.
I have seen a comapny from Immingham (think they are called Immingham Block Paving) around quite a bit and seem to do quite a good job, keep an eye out in the Telegraph there are often a few small adverts in there. Get a couple of quotes and ask for examples of previous work.

Re: Block Paving.
Thanks Matthew and Gaz, I will ring them both and see if I can get some quotes, I have two already but to be honest one of them has no idea, he may be great at his job but surely it's not good business sense to submit a quote that is filled with mistakes, tipex and plain old crossed out spelling mistakes.

You've hit one of my bugbears there. I'm going through the quoting process for a garage conversion and I'm amazed at how amatuerish some of the mailshots are. I've had a few mailshots because they get my name and address from the planning application and I don't know why they waste the price of a stamp when a decent spell checker would be a better investment. Others that go straight in the bin are ones who provide you with a mobile number and no address.
One firm sent a glossy professional brochure but attached was a comp slip warning that because of commitment they'd be unable to start any work until January 2009.
Never trust time-travelling builders by Granny used to say... or perhaps she didn't

Re: Block Paving.
Okay your quotes for basic paving should be in the region of £60 per Sq meter. Any fancy bricks or odd layout style will increase this cost.
Is the kerb dropped yet? If not then you need permission from your local council highways department before you get the work done, generally this is a formality.
as for the drive itself, if you are going to concrete/pave over what was bare soil (or grass etc. basically anything that would just absorb rain) and the run off is set to head for the public drainage system then you will need to apply for and get planning permission. If however you are going to have the water run off into the ground (via a soak-away or the like) then you do not need planning permission but its a good idea to get thei in writing from the planning department.
We have ours set ours to run into a soakaway (basically a 1mx1mx1m pit full of rubble and sand) but we still filled out the 'do I need planning permission' forms for the local council and we have aletter from them stating that we do not need permission (this is going, along with the one from the highways department saying we can drop the kerb, in with the Deeds

Do what I did a few years ago when I had mine done, when I noticed a new drive had been laid I knocked on the door and asked them who did the job and were they happy with the work? All of the people were happy with telling me who did the job and how the work was. I had mine done with patterned concrete with a block paved look, I had it all waterproofed the whole job lot.
