Long Grass Needs Killing
Hi All,
I have to kill off this long grass at the bottom of the garden as it's too much to deal with, we're talking about 40ft x 20ft of Lawn With the grass quite thick and about 8-10 inches long.
We have thought about White Vinigar, and I have just used a full jar of that on a small patch. I dont know if this will be effective, or if it will work if it rains.
My main worry is how long it will take to kill off, and if their is an effective method to do this quickly without damaging the soil permanantly.
So far my only idea's have been white vinigar, starving the grass by using plastic sheeting, or by getting a blow torch and burning it down, they do have something in argos for this but i am unsure if this will work for actual long grass or if its only effective on weeds.
(See Attached)
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: Long Grass Needs Killing
Best weed & grass killer ever.
You need to be careful using it in built up areas though.

Re: Long Grass Needs Killing
What do you want to do with the area after you get rid of the grass?
If you want grass, you're best off just cutting it. If not, your best bet might be to dig the turf up. Otherwise: Roundup kills grass. I had to kill of a patch last year due to a "Mind your own business" infestation, but I suspect this would be a lengthy (and costly) process.
Another option would be to buy a scythe

Re: Long Grass Needs Killing
Well towards the bottom i want it for growing vegetables, in the middle we want to put the kids trampoline and slide etc.
Its ok saying lawnmower and a bit of graft, but that grass has already ruined one mower and one strimmer. The pics dont show just how big area it is down there, we tried to pay a guy to come and do it but not even he would contemplate doing it.
I will check out the few links, thanks for those.

just paced out mine and its around 60 foot by 25 foot and I managed. You aint gonna do it with a 40 quid Hover mover as the motor aint gonna handle it you need as has been mentioned a petrol mower or strimmer . Honestly mate the first cut it will look messy the second will start tidying it up and by the time you have done it 3 or 4 times you have cracked it
