Work rant

Just a rant really.

Why do i feel like I am getting pressurised into going into work.

I have swine flu medication started Monday and due to finish today but still got a real bad blocked nose and cough. Been told until the symptoms are gone I am still infected and to stay at home.

But I got my manager going on "it should be over by now it only lasts 2 days" and my assistant manager on msn the other night said it cant be swine flu if it lasts more then 3 days.

They have a self cert which for my illness which covers me for 2 weeks. I am hoping to go back Monday

Rant over

Grrrrr

Re: Work rant

Your managers need to get into the real world - what do they want? An entire workforce off with Swine Flu or one or two people who manage to catch it?

Two weeks ensures that you're free from carrying the virus. Your managers ought to realise that.

How long are symptoms expected to last?
As with any sort of flu, how bad the symptoms are and how long they last will vary depending on treatment and individual circumstances. Most cases reported in the UK to date have been relatively mild, with those affected starting to recover within a week.
Hope you feel better soon, mate.

Re: Work rant

i'm guessing this is Q.E.D. as to why your boss is not a doctor, but instead micro-manages with a superiority complex based in misinformation about subjects they simply do not know about!

Go back to work when you feel well enough to, be it swine flu or not.

Re: Work rant

Be the good, conscientious worker and go back to work early.

And then proceed to cough and sneeze all over you manager's phone, keyboard and lunch.

Ha ha! That'll teach them!

On a more serious note, is it any wonder there's such a problem with these epidemics when there's such irresponsible management about. Money is obviously far more important than people.

Official complaint, seriously. Work place bullying by both of them. Call HR explain the situation and the sick note and then wait...

I'm assuming you must have some underlying health condition to have been prescribed the drugs, so maybe your employers need to take this into account.

How come your self-cert covers you for two weeks? EDIT: just checked this out with our payroll after reading some news articles.

Re: Work rant

what your boss should also understand is that more often thatn not, Tamiflu has side effects that are worse than the flu itself! so even with medication, you may still not be well enough to work. (my other half is a nurse, so I get filled in on all this!!)
