Take them to the Needles and go on the chair lifts, they do not stop so you have to jump off at the bottom.

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
There is a wicked Pub that does excellent meals its next to campsite if you find it its yummy lol
Ryde is a resort I think the Ferry drops you here. Cowes is a must to look at the snobs and their boats. Blackgang chine is interesting and there is an Amzon world type place. I must say I went camping there and its one of my favourite holidays

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
IF you get some really nice weather head for the island's beaches such as Ryde. It's a gorgeous sandy beach that becomes simply enormous when the tide goes out.Sandown is another nice one.
I live across the Solent from the Island and can say that when my kids were younger I would head across to the Island on really beautiful days just because of the lovely sandy beaches..ours are all pebbles.
At the Needles you can take the rather scary chairlift down to the beach or risk your neck on the steps.
Blackgang Chine enthralled me when was young but later I found it a bit naff but I expect they have updated it a bit more now.
It's been awhile since I was last there but as it's mainstay trade is tourism I can assure you that there is something for everyone....even teenagers.
Have a great time.I always do when I go there.

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
Ha ha at the multi-coloured sand! That's all I could remember about the IOW until I read this post.
We used to have a holiday home (next to the bushy minefields) in Freshwater. Nice little holiday site/amusements/bar/cabaret type thing. Good fishing there, off an old fallen sea wall. Nice walk up and down the cliffs to get there, plenty of rock pools at the bottom to go crabbing/shrimping! Tasty.
Loved it as a kid.

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
Thanks everyone! Keep 'em coming...
We're staying right by the inlet at Wooton Creek so let's hope the weather allows us to enjoy those beaches in Ryde...

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
Robin Hill is somewhere I enjoyed when I was 12ish, Black Gang chine also used to be great although I think alot of it has sunk into the sea. Cowes week starts tomorrow so the will be lots of events around Cowes, make sure you see the fireworks next Friday night. Brading wax works used to scare the bejesus out of me when younger but it is probably quite tame now!! I think they have a big Dinosaur fossil thing at the back of the island round shanklin way, the zoo was rubbish last time I went though. There is an ice rink at Ryde. Also take the hovercraft or ferry from Ryde to Portsmouth and go up the Spinaker Tower, the view is amazing and the shopping/restaurants at Gunwharf Quays is ok too.

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
We can get to the Isle of Wight one or two times a year, our highlights include:-
Yarmouth (one of the ferry ports)
Freshwater Bay (nice beach)
Blackgang Chine (went recently and still good fun)
The Buddle Inn (smugglers pub)
Amazon World
Aretton Barns
Ventnor
Sandown (best beach imo)
For a small island there is loads to visit and do, although we prefer the south to the north.
Hope that helps!

Don't forget if you do take a trip to Portsmouth to see the Spinakar tower...go to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard as well.See the Victory,The Mary Rose and the iron clad sailing warship,The Warrior.

Re: Holiday time on the Isle of Wight :)
The Dockyard is great - I love going there to see the latest work on the Mary Rose. Will be ace when they get her in final resting place in years to come. Also - when you leave, you can upgrade your ticket for about £10 - this entitles you to gain entry to the Dockyard FOC, for a year. That's if they still run that scheme - Windsor Castle do the same!
As for the IoW - Blackgang Chine and the Needles are great - the island is small enough to reach anywhere on the island withing about 30 mins.

Go to Sandown Beach, its really good. The pier has a great indoor CrazyGolf as well.
Needles is also good for a day out, as is Robin Hill.
Also, take the Fastcat across to Portsmouth for the day.
