Lemsip Max And Nurofen Plus?
Hi, Feeling like absolute crap all this last week but felt better today until the afternoon.
Went for an unrelated blood test yesterday and asked the nurse about swine flu and she said i`ve probably not got it.
My question is, is it safe to take Lemsip Max and Nurofen Plus together?
I`ve googled it but found nothing. Any ideas on this?
Thanks.

Re: Lemsip Max And Nurofen Plus?
Wouldn't take them both at the same time. should be OK to alternate every two hours.
Nurofen plus is two different painkillers, Lemsip Max is a painkiller plus a decongestant.
So long as they don't both contain paracetamol that should be OK.
I alternate paracetamol & ibuprofen every two hours for my back since they banned co-proxamol...

Yes you can, paracetamol is the active ingredient in Lemsips, so you can take ibuprofen together, though probably best to have them an hour apart. And stick with the normal dosage and avoid taking anything else with paracetamol.

Re: Lemsip Max And Nurofen Plus?
I wouldn't as lemsip has a painkiller in it. (Unless a Dr states otherwise.)

The painkiller in Lemsip (paracetamol) is different to the painkiller in Nurofen (ibuprofen).
Paracetamol is an analgesic/anti-pyretic, ibbuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug...

Yes but you shouldn't mix unless told by a Dr.

Re: Lemsip Max And Nurofen Plus?
I know a couple of GPs, they are all very relaxed about the practice of 'double banking' with ibuprofen and paracetamol, that is, alternating doses every 2-3 hours. There should be no problems unless you already have contraindications against using either of those drugs on their own (e.g. you shouldn't use bufen if you're prone to stomach ulcers).

But if you're in pain it's necessary, believe me.
Banning co-proxamol was one of the most stupid things the MHRA have done.

I totally agree with you there.
For those that very rarely take any kind of meds it is advisable to be as careful as possible.
I wouldn't follow my advise when it comes to painkillers (apart from the above), on a quick reckon up I can say I've taken around 30,000+ paracetamol over the last 10 years or so. That's not including the opiates etc. I grateful now of Buprenorphine, at least I take less pills now.

Re: Lemsip Max And Nurofen Plus?
Just took the online assessment www.direct.gov.uk/pandemicflu
and its results were basically i do not have swine flu ( which i`m pleased about) but it says to see a GP as " It appears the patient is suffering from complications of Flu" Last night my temperature was 38.8 and today its 38.0.
Still sweating like a pig though ( Excuse the pun)
Nice.......

Re: Lemsip Max And Nurofen Plus?
Not sure if I'm right but paracetamol effects the liver and ibuprofen effects the kidneys hence it's safe to take both together.. I'm sure that one the the experts will confirm.
For severe pains I just take a couple of 500/30 co-codamol as it's the only thing which knocks it sideways for me.
