Buying a new Type R GT

Hi all,

Just about to go and get a new Civic Type R GT and wondered if anyone else had one and what you thought about it, problem's you had or how the dealer treated you?

I'm going for the GT in Milano Red and can't wait

Re: Buying a new Type R GT

Don't bother unless you get the JDM version which comes in white only and (more importantly) has a limited slip differential.....
It aint really a proper type r if it doesnt have the limited slip diff
Go for a newish Integra-R (JDM import only)....less money and you get a better car......

Re: Buying a new Type R GT

I wouldn't touch the new CTR's with a 10ft barge pole, possibly even a 100ft barge pole. In short, it's very much like trying to drive a bowl of jelly. As Ramrod says the LSD makes a world of difference and removing it for the UK market was unforgiveable as is the general suspension setup and overall stiffness of the ride. I'm fortunate enough to have, as a funmobile, one of the last UK market DC2 Integra Type R's made (bought new in 2001 with *cough* one or two modifications made since) and it even knocks a few spots off the later DC4 model in the driveability department... having said that its not as easy to live with; lacking a 6th gear renders it a bit fatiguing on long trips.

Re: Buying a new Type R GT

I also wouldn't touch the Civic Type-Rs. The NORMAL Civic has a VERY harsh ride (and I've got an Audi with Sports suspension so thats saying something!) when I tested the civic I came out of it with a sore bum after only an hour behind the wheel.

There is also the previously mentioned lack of an LSD. There are much better cars out there for your £20k

How about a Focus ST? Better Handling and comes in far better colours - The blue is nice!

Re: Buying a new Type R GT

I had a Civic VTI 1.8 a few years ago, it was a fantastic car, although the Type R seem a lot 'harder', mine was very comfortable. Still did nothing in MPG though.

Sure is , but then having one id say that. Its buy far the best handling hot hatch around.. The type r is too much arsing around to get anywhere in , the golfs the choice for the unimaginative and the megane will melt in the rain.

Only prob with the ST's is the fuel economy..its fairly shocking , but then again its a 2.5L 5 cyl turbo

VXR? too much power on an awful chassis for fans of plough on understeer and hedgerows only

Re: Buying a new Type R GT

I got a pulsar gti-r for sale, may be old but would smash the socks off all the above cars mentioned. (325bhp, 12.9 quarter mile proven)
