Is My Dog Ill ?

The last 2 days my dog has been acting a little strange. At first you wouldnt think it is strange but when you've spent alot of time with your dog you tend to notice when their not acting in there normal manner.

What going on is a couple things. She is gone off her food. She will only eat thing's fed to her by hand and then thats a bit hit and miss. She has started to lick things alot including people in the house. She also always wants to sit on the sofa and lie next to someone. She never does this. She often like's to lie on the sofa's but normally one that no-one is on. She is still playfull etc etc and seems to be acting a little better today (barking at everything going past) but it had me a little worried.

Since there are some animal lovers on here I was just wondering if anyone had come across an animal acting this way before.

Re: Is My Dog Ill ?

how old is she ? , is she in season ?? , if not i would definately take her to a vet , a sure sign of something wrong with a dog is being 'off their food' . I can tell straight away when there is something wrong with Zak because as you say, you notice when they are not acting normal. You say she seems a little better today , has she eaten at all ?

Re: Is My Dog Ill ?

She is 3. Normally I would of thought she was in season as that's normally when she goes off her food for a while. She has eaten about half a meal today but not her full amount. As I said she has started to return to normal which is the only reason she has not yet been taken to the Vets.

Am going to keep an eye on her today but if there is no change then I will for sure be getting her checked out.

ring the vets and tell them what you told us, she might just be very warm because of the weather try and keep her hydrated

Re: Is My Dog Ill ?

Dogs just like humans have off days.
Maybe shes just under the weather and needs a little TLC??

Just keep an eye on her, you know your own dog better than others do! You will know if its a off to the vets job on Monday morning.

Al the best to you and her x

yeah sounds good aren't pets such a worry at times , there are lots of bugs about at this time of year , Zak caught kennel cough last week (not been in kennels) gave me a right scare until i knew what it was, i thought he had something stuck in his throat and kept me and the missus awake 2 days on the trot with his coughing

Re: Is My Dog Ill ?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Just given her a shower and she seems to have gained alot of her bounce back. Maybe it is the weather. She's due to be fed again in and hour and half so I'll see how she does then but she already seems alot better

Thanks again everyone and I will be keeping a closer eye on here over the next 24 hours.

What type of dog is she? G'won - give us a pic

Probably is the weather, make sure she's getting enough water. When they're ill so long as they drink, they won't get dehydrated (much like us). Have you noticed her eating any grass?

Re: Is My Dog Ill ?

Many many years ago when we had a dog we put a yellow rock like stuff in his water which help keep his water fresher plus it added minerals to it.

(Rock sulphur seems to stick in my mind)

We got it from the vets i believe.

I also just remembered that we used to spray him with one of those mist sprayers to help hom pn ther really hot days.

She is a mix breed (Heinz 57 we were told because they were not sure what mix) that we took in from the RSPCA. Poor thing had been abandoned in a shed when she was only a week or 2 old.

Haven't seen her eating any grass and she really does seem to be her old self (or young self lol) again. She had me worried for a while. Still will be watching over her this weekend just to be sure.

We thought the same Zing, Definatly looks like there's a bit of collie in there. I cant beleive anyone could abandon her. She was such a cute and playful puppy.

Mine seems to be suffering with hay fever - wheezing, and very tired. We've kept her out the field with the buttercups, and she seems to be back to normal now!
