Bees Nest!
I have a 3 year old boy who likes to play in the garden a lot.
The problem is that I now have a bees nest in the garden , under the shed. I know its not wasps nest however I’m concerned that A) What if it gets bigger B) will they sting my boy?
What should I do ignore it or block the entrance? Don’t really want to have to pay a pro to come out. Aren’t they protected anyway?
Concerned!

Re: Bees Nest!
I had the same quandry 2 years ago with a nest under the decking. After looking into it I decided to leave it as it was endangered species and they aren't aggressive like wasps.
Sadly the population disappeared by itself after a few weeks. By that time my daughters were really interested in watching the toing and froing of the bees and had learned a lot about them.

That’s fine just a little worried my boy will start poking around whiles I take my eyes of him, before you know it, well it could end up like a scene from the film swarm!

Re: Bees Nest!
We've had a few in our garden over the years with no problems at all. We just told the kids to leave them alone. Depending on how old your child is could you not just put some form of temporary barrier around the area of the nest to keep him from getting too close?

Re: Bees Nest!
I would try to contact a local beekeeper. Given the decimation wrought by Varroa, they may jump at the chance of obtaining a new colony.

There was a swarm in next door's front garden just a few days ago which a local beekeeper was happy to remove but I'm not sure they like moving nests unless it's absolutely necessary.

Re: Bees Nest!
Might be a bit hard to move as under the shead. I just hope it does not get bigger, thats my worry.

Wouldn't cost anything to pick up the phone and get the advice of a local beekeeper about what's best to do. If nothing else they may be able to reassure you that there's little risk to your kids.

Re: Bees Nest!
I think i've got one aswell, they look like wasps to me but OH reckons they're honey bees which aren't fluffy?
They're in the soil which i dug over a few months ago to start growing some veg and the dog and cats keep poking around in there cos there's loads of them
