Pot Noodle Me
As a result of no proper exercise from February to now, I have gained quiet a bit of weight. I am thinking of going on a diet for the next 6 weeks - after which I have been told I should be able to start light jogging/cross training/cycling (I am unable to do any exercise apart from walking whilst recovering from a slipped disc and fractures along 2 spinal veterbre)
I am thinking about the following.
Morning - Cereal with milk
Afternoon - 1 Pot Noodle
Dinner - 1 Pot noodle
Anyone got any thoughts on the diet? I love Pot Noodle and the nutritional values make it look very healthy. It's also extremely convinient for work. Just wondering what comments and thoughts the guys on this friendly forum would have. Any other weight loss tips (food related) would be appreciated.

Re: Pot Noodle Me
"Pot Noodle"
"Healthy"
Never thought I would see those words in the same sentence.
But seriously, though, I thought they were high in saturated fats, MSG, and other not so good stuff - they are mainly carbs with little protein, so not really a balanced diet.

Re: Pot Noodle Me
Not sure if Pot noodle is healthy or not. I know what it says on the pack, but the values they give do not give the whole picture.
For instance, AFAIK, Pot Noodles, in common with many Ready Meals, contain a *lot* of Salt.
If you want to eat healthily, the best option is to eat lots of Salad and plenty of protein based foods (certain vegetables, meat etc) and carbohydrates. The food should be fresh. No ready meals.
It's worth noting that if you eat too much of any food (and two meals a day every day is too much), you run the risk of serious damage to your health.

Doesn't seem too bad. I will be eating 50% of my sodium content.

Re: Pot Noodle Me
There was a good prog about diet on BBC One last night called 10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight
There was some really interesting information in it, some of it quite against the grain but backed by new research.
There's more about it here, and It will probably be on Iplayer for a wee while
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ksh7c
Well worth watching

So, I don't think they are saying it's healthy.

Surely you are kidding
You really need to ensure you get a balanced diet, 5 a day, etc. In the short term pot noodle might do, but what sort of mess would it make of your insides if that is what you ate for a longer term.

Re: Pot Noodle Me
Personally if I want to lose weight I just do one thing and that is go non-fried foods and veggie. Not so hard to do as my partner is veggie...

Re: Pot Noodle Me
I forgot to add that I will eat 5 pieces of fruit a day too.
I have tried salads, they don't fill me up. Sandwiches bore me.
The advantages of my Pot Noodle diet for me are :- convenience - easy to make up, you just need boiling water, no need to worry about portion size, no dishes to wash, cheap.

All pot noodles are 100% suitable for vegetarians too.

Re: Pot Noodle Me
From the show that was on last night, a breakfast containing protein will make you feel less hungry until lunchtime. And for lunch a thick soup, as the thickness of the soup takes longer for the food to digest.
including Low fat dairy products was a surprise too, as the calcium in it helps absorb an amount of fat which you later dispose of
By watching my calories the last 3 weeks or so I've managed to lose around 2lbs per week (which they say is about the right amount), with limited exercise as I have to build back up after the bionic knee went in

I was thinking soups too. For convenience I would ake the soup on a sunday evening and use during the week. The only problem is they dont leave me feeling full.
I will be substituting egg white omlette for instead of cereals at breakfast a few times a week.

Re: Pot Noodle Me
Good luck with it anyway
I've been using the Livestrong site to keep tabs on things, although US based a lot of UK supermarket produce is in the database.

Red Dwarf, "Marooned":
(Rimmer's just finishing the - short - list of food items available)
"...and a Pot Noodle in that cupboard. Oh, and I found a tin of dog food under the console."
"Well, it's obvious what gets eaten last, then, isn't it? Can't stand Pot Noodles!"
- sorry, I just couldn't resist!

Re: Pot Noodle Me
hmm, am sitting here right next to a piece of exercise equipment purchased on ebay for a fiver - also doubles up as a useful coat hanger.
anyway, I know it's hard, but all you need to know is that you need to consume less calories right? Let's forget the nutritional content (or lack of) of Pot Noodle, it has the same calories as a bag of crisps amongst other things. If you think you can manage on that, then go for it. Surely you'll get bored of the same thing though? some variety will then creep into your diet.
So far today I have eaten; 3 slim fast caramel bars ( like mini mars bars but only 99 calories ), 2 low fat sausages with a big handful of spinach which hubby & I find fills us up quite well and an apple muller rice. oh and a diet pepsi.
I'm quite full, which is really novel for me! I'm even contemplating doing some exercise! We've only been making a concentrated effort to diet for about 10 days and I've lost about 6lb I think. Need 'proper' scales, not the cheapo rubbish one we've got.
Anyhoot, just thought I would share & enthuse that anything is possible. Even without exercise Good Luck.

Just had to check you hadn't posted this thread in 'humour'
I doubt that any nutritionist would class pot noodles as healthy, no matter what it says on the pot........
