Tell her to put on a jumper... those heaters are massive energy wasters.

His comment is more helpful than you realise. You will spend a fortune on gas with one. You would be better off with a Mexican chiminaea. You can burn charcoal, logs or dry waste garden wood in them. They smoke a little when you get them started but there's very little smoke once they're hot. We have one that has a lip built in that allows you to put in a barbecue shelf into it. It's great for cooking for up to 3 or 4 adults.

Re: Patio heaters advice

They're much easier to get hold of now than when we bought ours. In fact you should find a decent selection in your local B&Q.

Re: Patio heaters advice

Agree with Chris - I bought one of the chiminea last weekend from Homebase - reduced £69.99 to £49.99 (actually a bit cheaper, as it was 10% off day).

Re: Patio heaters advice

They don't all have a barbecue function. We got ours years ago from an independent importer. It may be that BBQ ones are difficult or impossible to come by now.

I have a Pizza Oven / Chiminea type thing (like this image here or Here) cost £230 ish but its far better than my old £50 one like this

I used both as a BBQ. Small £50 one I used 25+ times over 2yrs but got fed up with a few issues in its Design (hard to clean ash out & stuff), so went for the Pizza Oven as a upgrade. Its AWESOME.

I use Lidl Coal/Lumpwood. Its 4x 1KG bags for £4. I put 1 bag in, light the bag (I have added a firelighter in for good measure at times) After 2min I add loads of off cuts from Decking, Wood or T&G Pine.

I cool Jacket Potatoes in Foil & use it as a outdoor heater. Not much smoke at all.

Pizza oven looks very nice but costly.

Any for about £100?

Thanks all food for thought.

Re: Patio heaters advice

I've a simple half an oil drum with four welded legs and a grill on it. We get all our wood from the local countryside (which I also plan on using in my new smoker)

Never seen the need for something fancy when something recycled would do just as good

They are a waste of money mate, your burning gas just for the sake of it. Get one of them heater lamps that strap onto your umbrella pole, they are much better and aren't a waste of money.

I've got one of these If I have it on all night it costs me about 50P if I had a gas one it would cost me much more. It cost me £104. Steer clear of the gas ones they are 100% crap.
