Re: Dead soldiers shipped as freight!!!
This has not shocked me at all. Its the normal actions of this Puppet Prime Minister. He has no respect for the Armed forces and never will.
He has respect for one person and one person alone. Himself.

If there is not there should be.
This is what the story is about
Quote:
The bodies of the soldiers Murdered in Northern Ireland were flown home without ceremony. This has angered members of HM Forces: "British troops have spoken of their anger following the disclosure that the bodies of the two soldiers murdered by dissident republicans were shipped back to the UK as freight."
"We have been told that the soldiers were not allowed to have a ramp service because of political reasons. We were told the Government didn't want anything that would look like the Troubles had restarted.
"As far as we are concerned these soldiers were shot dead in uniform by terrorists and they should be treated in exactly the same way as if they were killed in Afghanistan. To send their bodies back to the UK as freight is outrageous

Re: Dead soldiers shipped as freight!!!
This is how our Goverment treat our armed forces
Quote:
The coffins of the dead soldiers were placed in two hermetically-sealed steel containers, covered with bubble-wrap and place in the hold of a civilian aircraft along the with passengers' luggage on Friday evening, this newspaper has learned.
The refusal by the MoD to allow a ramp service caused a wave of resentment among many of the troops and civilian staff at the barracks, in Antrim.
Instead of the service, troops at the base were forced hastily to organise an ad hoc and private ceremony for the families of the dead soldiers last Thursday.
A source inside the base last night said: "There was a point when we were told that there would not be any service at all and there was nearly a mutiny. It's an absolute disgrace.

Isn't it about time to rebuild Hadrians's Wall. Then chuck him over it

Re: Dead soldiers shipped as freight!!!
This government can learn a lot from the US.
There was a documentary out a little while ago which chronicles the journey of a Marine lost in Iraq (true story). Its called "Taking Chance" and I really, really, do recommend you watch it where possible. Its beautiful and incredibly moving.
1. Soldiers/Marines etc are assigned an escort who follows the body at all times from the start of the journey until the body reaches the family's funeral home. The escort then meets with the family
2. The body is present always moved feet first.
3. The boby is rendered honours at every changeover point (from vehicle to vehicle)
4. Body is presented perfectly even though an open casket funeral is not an option.
Might seem over-elaborate but these people die for their country, their families want this respect shown.
You can see a trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtmiLdzzgGE Even that just gives me goosebumps.

I think that the forces have always had a higher standing in society in the US than the UK and this will probably never change. Veterans there have always been respected by the populace.
Since the late 80s/90s the UK armed forces have slowly been chipped away by privatising various bits of it, scrapping others to save money, selling land/property to make money. You only have to look at the state of the married quarters these days to see how well they are thought of by the Blair/Brown government that has sent them off to war several times now.

This is not confined to the army, there is a general disrespect to anyone is a position of public service. Army, police, nurses, doctors, and social workers generally don't get treated with respect.

Re: Dead soldiers shipped as freight!!!
Always used to be any military deaths had a ramp service & the bodies were shipped home in the baggage hold with care that no more than one direct relative was on the same flight.
