As it's the first order I can't say how reliable they are but the site works well and the goods were despatched the same day on trackable DHL. Here's a link: http://www.sportsdirect.com/footwear

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 3
Survived the day and entire network of phones going down when the only guys who can sort it are off-site. The plus of it is I get to go away this weekend and I get a VERY big hug from somebody I miss dearly!

Black Belt Success :)
Well after almost 4 years of hard work and training 4 times per week for most of that period, Osem Junior (aged 15) today undertook his 1st Dan Black Belt Grading (Wado Ryu/Shito Ryu) and passed!
He'd been due to do this back at Christmas but much to his frustration it had been postponed twice because two other students in consideration hadn't made sufficient progress and it was finally decided to hold the grading without them.
Anyway, the 2 1/2 hour grading consisted of a written exam on Japanese karate related theory and terminology plus demonstrations of 3 advanced katas, 5 advanced combination techniques and various basic techniques and other katas chosen at random from the entire syllabus. This was followed by demonstration of 5 pair techniques he devised specially for the grading (both attack & defence variants) with a partner. To cap this off he then had to fight continuously for 30 mins with 5 Senseis in rotation.
We were only allowed in after the fighting stopped and found him slumped in a chair, exhaused and sporting a number of scrapes and bruises including what looks like it'll be quite a nice black eye.... Now we appreciate why they don't let parents attend!.........
Anyway, we're told he performed admirably well and the decision to award the Black Belt was unanimous and without hesitation. We're so very proud of him and will look back on today as the day he became a young man and proved to himself what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 3
Oh wow Osem what a fantastic result after so much hard work and determination. I can understand how proud you feel. When our son took his Black Belt grading John and I sat waiting for the same period as you did and I had no nails left by the time we were let into the hall where it took place. He too was battered and bruised but didn't feel a thing. I think the next day was the worse for aches and pains, the biggest pain of all being from grinning soooo much his cheeks hurt.
Please give him a pat on the back from me. I know he doesn't know me but such an achievement cannot go unrewarded.

Thanks Jo - I know he'll appreciate your words...
He's just having a bath and revealed the full extent of his bruises - there are actually bruises in the shape of hand-grip marks on both of his thighs where they had him in submission holds..... Apparently the black eye was caused by a head kick...
I reckon he'll stiffen up a bit as you say but he's determined to go to training this evening as usual. We'll see about that though...
Just worked out how to do this:

Thanks
I organised the belt for him a few months ago so the Senseis could present it if he passed. I did feel a bit awkward about doing that (didn't want to tempt fate) but I didn't want him to miss out on getting it on the day if all went to plan. Today was the first time I'd seen it and I was soooo relieved that they spelt his namely correctly.....
