Is it old? It cost £100 and was the only card he wanted. He played Silent Hunter last night, well impressed it took about 5 minutes to install and no need to turn the graphics down which he had to do on other machine.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 3

omg you were scanked on that card. You can get a 4870 for that price

The 9800GT iirc was basically the same as a 8800GT so it is a tad long in the tooth considering the prices of the 4870 cards now

9800Gt is a 8800GT with a 55nm core. I.e. it runs cooler.

I have an 8800GT actually, it plays everything i've thrown at it so far though

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 3

yes but would you pay a tenner more for one now than a 4870?

IE I know what thinner processes mean

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 3

If it's old at £100, I can only imagine the prices of a 'new' one.
He's happy with it and will be even more so as I'm off to pick up another 2 gig of ram.
Oh and I'm going to do the boring shopping today for food n stuff

Motherboard is MSI 770-C45 AM3 DDR3 £65
CPU was £139.
Total cost was £435 inc build, that inc case, dvd writer, 2gb ddr3 and cooler and another £35 today for more ram.
Thanks for looking for me zing. I'm a pain in the butt when it comes to shopping, I want it there n then I hate waiting, so while it cost a bit more to go into the shop n get it he's over the moon with it.
