Totally fed up :(
Hi all
Well I'd say over the last month, I have been totally fed up, no energy and have totally given up on everything.
I got laid off work in October last year, and ever since that minus a month or so I've just been totally bored, fed up if you like.
Just lately, I've been getting worse and i don't know what I'm going to do to be honest.
I'm 30 in May, so i ain't getting no younger.
I don't know if i should try and ride this out or go see my doctor see what he recommends.
Just totally fed up lately, can't be bothered doing nothing
It's not as if i can get a job just like that, as everyone knows, the economy is not exactly great lately, I've sent off like 6-7 forms in 2 months, not a single one has replied.
Anyone else been seriously unhappy lately?
I just had to get this off my chest because I' not feeling well at all latly
If this is in the wrong section can some mod please move it please?
Thanks for listing

Like you I had my contract terminated last October, sent loads of copies of my CV to various employers, but not a single one has come back to me.

Re: Totally fed up :(
I know how you feel, I've been there myself I was out of work for 10 months and only entitled to the JSA.
I would just keep on looking you will get the job that you are looking for.
Why not look into doing some volunteer work for a local charity? It will possibly give you brownie point with the job centre, plus get you out of the house and doing something, and you may end up being offered a paying job. (A work college is looking into doing some work with the World Food Program in Africa.)
Then enjoy the weekend not thinking about jobs.

Re: Totally fed up :(
Is it a "getting older problem"?
As I've never been like this before, i was always 1 who cracked the jokes etc, but latley I've gone all boring n within myself
I agree, it's alot to do with looking for work as that is all im thinking of latley.
But that's the only way I'm going to get a job so it has to be done.

Re: Totally fed up :(
Ive been pretty depressed since last summer. Last year was crap and this year has started pretty crap also. All the doc wants to do with me is put me on pills but I aint accepting them.
Best advice I can give is do not turn to drink or drugs and just affirm yourself every day and it will pass

you may need to think about updating your CV - or 'tailoring' the CV and the covering letter more to the specific role you are applying for?

Re: Totally fed up :(
I don't think its an age related thing. I felt like you did coming up to 30, but it really isn't that bad. See it as now you have the looks and the experience
Maybe look into a hobby rather than place all the emphasis on getting work. You're putting everything into finding work and there's nothing happening - who can blame you for getting depressed? I certainly wouldn't. I know its probably the last thing you want to hear, but exercise is proven to lift the mood and increase energy levels. I recently took up kick fit myself and although i moan and groan, i feel great after it (bar the pain!). I was feeling really low due to financial reasons and I find it helps - give it a go, what have you got to lose?

Could be..I've found myself looking at the end of the last three decades of my life and evaluating where I am..it can depress one if you linger too long on what you may have failed to achieve of your particular dreams or if you compare yourself to your peers/family/friends and haven't realised all your ambitions.
I usually end up being more myself up as soon as the decade finishes..29 is a common age to get depressed this way.As soon as you pass 30 or get a job you will feel better.

Re: Totally fed up :(
ok i am 43 have extremely bad asthma which basicaly limits me to doing not a lot i cant play with my kids the way i would like i cant hold down a job andlife is likely to get harder as medication i take slowly makes other things worse
but there are many worse of than me
go out there find a charity you can do something for
if you do admin you will find loads willing to take your help
if you can lift heavy things you will find loads willing to take your help
if you can sell you will find loads willing to take your help
if you can ........ shall i go on
i help run a nursery as chairman ( it doesnt take up much of my time really )
because i and the others on the committee do it for free we can offer the lowest price in the area which means kids who wouldnt have had the chance to play with others at this age 2- 4 mostly can do so
its great seeing them develop especially the ones we get off social who have had often not a very good time at all in thier first few years of life
but there are other charities and people to help if you cant stand screaming kids ( it helps if your a little deaf lol )
plus it looks good on your CV it can especially if the downturn keeps you off work a long time keep you current with whats going on
or even get into something completely diferent
go on try it !

Re: Totally fed up :(
as long as you haven't been arrested for attacking some one you should pass a CRB they don't care about motoring offences
but you only need one if you are goig to work with kids or vulnerable people anyway
if your just going to help run something or do some manual work you wont need one anyway

Re: Totally fed up :(
I felt the same way about 5 years ago...I was 35...getting peeved off with IT work and getting more and more down about life..
Not long afterwards I met a new partner, quit IT and 50K a year and now scrape by in life running a small business with my partner that now both the work/partner give's me more enjoyment than I've had in the last 15 years...
They say a change is good for the soul

I'm not doing too well either; I've spent the last year or so as a recluse, isolated from society, cooped up inside the house with the curtains closed.
It's all down to my extreme form of anxiety. Every trip out of the house renders a battle of strong emotions so in the end it just feels like it's not worth it. In fact, the last time I saw a friend was well over six months ago.
It's also the reason I'm not in education, and the reason I cut school early and forfeited all of my GCSEs.
I know this isn't how I should be living, and that's what anyone with anxiety who's in a similar situation to myself will tell you. It's impossible to understand unless you actually suffer with it.
Drink helps with social encounters, even if only temporarily. It's clear it's not the answer, but seeing a doctor is out of the question because of the insurmountable barrier anxiety creates when you even so much as think about meeting with a human being.
I guess I've waited this long because I expected it to pass; that it was just a phase, a reaction of hormones, but really it's just getting worse. I can feel depression creeping in too.
Anyway, perhaps that makes you feel better about your situation. It is the truth.
