Learning to play guitar
I want to learn how to play the guitar after getting influenced by my friend and of course the wish to be in a rock band Anyway can anynoe recommend a good but cheap set-up for a beginner..hopefully around £250-300? (prefereably to practice metalcore, metal and deathcore)
Thanx

Re: Learning to play guitar
If you have a local music shop you should find some good second-hand guitars and amps there. If you want new then you won't go to far wrong with something from the Vintage guitar range at JHS. http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintageelectric.html. A practise amp needs only to be in the 5watt-15watt range (unless you really like to upset the neighbours) or get one of the headphone type which are more family/neighbour friendly, something like the Vox Amplug. http://www.voxamps.com/amplug/ I've got the AC30 version and it sound like a real AC30 it's mad.

Re: Learning to play guitar
For that style of music these would be my picks
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/...rgx-121z/69270
Yamaha RGX121.. You can't go wrong with a Yamaha, even the cheap ones and this has H-S-H pickup configuration and a FR locking tremolo which will be perfect for the style of metal you're after getting into

The little Line 6 amps have decent onboard effects so you won't have to mess around with pedals. The crunch/overdrive/distortion sounds are particularly good and well suited to the metal style you want to play. This one has a 12" speaker and it's small and light, well better alternative to most practice amps which have smaller drive units.

Re: Learning to play guitar
Let us know how you get on. There are a huge number of tutorial websites on the web, my favourite is http://www.justinguitar.com/ maybe not the style you eventually want to play but everyone needs to learn the basics.

Re: Learning to play guitar
Certainly the latter genre makes use of drop tunings as opposed to the standard E-A-D-G-B-E tuning. This allows the guitarist to produce a chord by fretting with a single finger allowing for fast, fluid chord changes with the bottom string maybe tuned down from E to A#or even A in fact some of these bands are using 7 string guitars. Much of the skill in this type of playing is in the strumming or picking technique.
You could actually master these styles of music without actually learning to play the guitar in a conventional fashion which would be a bit limiting but I guess that's a matter of personal preference.
