Re: Cowboy Builders
I missed the adhesive, but saw the flame on the deck as he sweated the straight. When I do that I use a couple of small shovels. (Im a amateur)
I did notice the lack of mortar in the old block work as they dropped the walls. The blocks almost fell out without hitting them.

Re: Cowboy Builders
Too many brickies fail to butter the complete end face before laying these days... it looks OK from the outside but there's hardly enough mortar to keep it up. I had to stop work on our 9" width brick garden wall as they were doing it this way... and it was supposed to be "free from all voids".
The building inspector told them to take the entire wall down and rebuild (about 60 feet with 8 courses raised)... the brickies walked off-site never to return. Their replacements tried the same technique, but the inspector got them sorted... and then the wall went up perfectly.
But then they left the site covered in waste mortar and cement powder... and it took 3 months to get them back and properly clear the site.
And that lot automatically win all council jobs as they are" value for money".
"Give bigger backhanders" more like....

Re: Cowboy Builders
Just been informed by the people ( via another forum ) who donated the tiling gear that all the proper adhesives were supplied, tubbed for the kitchen and rapid for the larger format bathroom tiles, why on earth he's dot and dabbed the one we can see with tubbed then is a mystery, unless it's for show,' look at the tiler fix tiles' sort of thing

Re: Cowboy Builders
You do any plumbing Bop?
......'cos if you do you could be a self employed kitchen/bathroom fitter.
You are a fully qualified electrician, you are a good tiler, if you can do basic plumbing then you could easily charge 1k for an install.
Mandys best friends brother has been doing that for years. He is a one stop shop for kitchen installation.......each install usually takes one week and he charges a flat rate of 1k for the job + the clients don't get ripped off by some firm taking money up front and then dragging out the job for weeks (while they do other jobs).

Re: Cowboy Builders
I can do bits and pieces when it comes to plumbing yes, my problem isn't with that, it's my sparky papers, or lack of, I'm old school, time served, never took it any further than day release, and that was pushing it, don't get me wrong, I can and have done the lot, from lights and plugs ( house bashing ) to overhead lines and mV ( HT ) terminations, to instrumentation, ffs, I've done and seen more than probably 2/3's of 17th edition sparks out there, not knocking them, but a daft bit of paper, fair do's, I'm well out of touch with regs now and testing has gone ape, and my theory isn't up to date, but yes I can do the job, 20 years ish experience
Part P, say no more And before anyone says do the paperwork, I have it here, enroled on a cours efor C&G's Part P and 16th, that's how long I've had the paperwork.

It's the part P that's a killer, not being able to certify work etc But that's the way of it, I'll live.
