180 Degree Hinges?
I'm looking to change the way the door under the stairs opens. At the moment the latch is on the left & hinges are on the right. But another door is at a right angle to the under stair door, and to get stuff under the stairs & out into the garden or kitchen is a NIGHTMARE lol.
Is there such a thing as a hinge that would allow the door of under the stairs to swing around 180 degree or more & would sit flat against the staircase, then I could get the stuff into the hallway & out into the kitchen.
I dont want kitchen door hinges (if possible). Just not enough room on the door/frame to fit them. I need normal hinges.
Had thought of a raise & fall hinge, but that means lifting door off every time. & I cant hang the door the other way

Re: 180 Degree Hinges?
If it only a small door a piano hinge might work

Re: 180 Degree Hinges?
good idea about the piano hinge, if fitted correctly they should allow the door to open completely out of the way, yet show very little visible hinge, you can also cut them to any length to suit and they dont need much framework to attach too.

Re: 180 Degree Hinges?
The obvious answer is to use a normal butt hinge but lay it flat on the OUTSIDE of the door with the hinge shaft OUTWARDS.
Simple.

This site is down at the moment but you'll surely find what you want here:

I don't see what advantage there is in piano hinges. It'll just mean more cutting out.

Re: 180 Degree Hinges?
yer butt.... no butt.... wont that be a bit crude looking, good simple solution yes, if cosmetic appearance isnt a consideration, most people like the understairs area to look neat, and if cosmetics aren't a consideration then removing the door altogether is a simpler solution

lol.... dust sheet and a few pegs. great idea no seriously, a few good ideas here, will see what Selco/Scre Fix have & try that out. Otherwise maybe move the other door into the kitchen to open other way.

Why ? with any luck it will fit snug with no 'cutting out' at worst it might need a tad planing off the door.

Re: 180 Degree Hinges?
A regular 'butt hinge' like this if mounted with the cylinder part of the hinge outside the doorframe will allow the door to open right round to the stairwall.

but he's suggesting to fix the WHOLE hinge externally. That's crude and unnecessary.
(sorry Taf..)
