Anyone use Ebico for their energy supplier or knows anyone with them?

Hi,

Currently looking around at gas and electric prices from energy suppliers, as my protect price plan with British gas is due to run out in April. On current prices Ebico is the cheapest for both. I've rang, just to get general info sent through and they seam OK.

Is anyone with them or know anyone with them you they can ask, what they are like to deal with customer service wise. BG on the last two occasions I've needed to contact them they have been appalling.
  • First time was to add another name to the account, which took three phone calls.
  • Second was about Direct Debit increase - I'm on a fixed plan and our average usage has near enough been the same for the last four years and they increase it by about 20%. This took ages on the phone to rectify.

So I thought I'll do a little homework work on Ebico before switching.

TIA for any replies

I was advised by a friend to go with them last year but when I checked they were dearer than EDF, maybe they have reduced their prices recently to make themselves cheaper but going off last years prices they will probably be more expensive when the other companies drop their prices in the coming weeks. Overall Scottish and Southern seem pretty good, generally they are one of the last to put up their prices and one of the first to lower them.
Checking price comparisons today can have very little relevance within a few weeks.

Re: Anyone use Ebico for their energy supplier or knows anyone with them?

Depends on what your usage is as they don't have a trier pricing structure, just a flat rate per KWh. So for low / low end medium users you should save money. Plus no charges for different payment methods.

If I do switch to them,
Electric: Is within a few quid per year compared to BG new Websavers 1 price
Gas: will be saving £ 70 / year

I only use web comparison sites to get the names/web addresses for the energy companies, then I go to their websites and check the price for myself. I think most of the energy companies will be reducing their prices over the next couple of months to follow BG. But only after everyones switches the heating off in April. The bright spark who decided to link the price of wholesale gas to oil barrel price needs shooting . Where's the decrease is price, the price of oil has dropped from around $150 / barrel to around $50, yet still no BIG decrease in prices to the end user.
