Surge Protector
hey guys,
I have purchased this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...=48036&DOY=2m2 and im waiting for it to arrive (hopefully tomorrow), and want to know a couple of things.
1) In total I run 8 things off of two separate extension leads at the mo. With this new extension lead I can run those 8 things plus the printer which is 9 in total.
2) Will this be ok bearing in mind that I currently have 2 extension leads but am changing it to 1 with more inputs?

Re: Surge Protector
If it's just PC/Printers/Speakers..etc then you should be fine...just add up the wattage of all the equipment, divide the total by 240v hich should then give you an amperage figure and if it's below 13 then you should be fine

Re: Surge Protector
If I read you post correctly, you should never put extension leads onto extension leads.
Make sure that the total output of the items doesn't exceed that the extension states.

Re: Surge Protector
If you are going to have all of the sockets in use when you have also got the other extensions plugged in, it could be a potential fire risk.
Can you not plug another extension into a seperate wall plug.

Not much good telling me what they are unless you read the labels and tell me what the wattage ratings are....
But looking at what you've got you should be OK as long as you don't add a kettle or an electric heater

Re: Surge Protector
I estimate under 600watts minus the printer, since I don't know if its laser or inkjet. If its inkjet add about 50watts, if its laser add about 1200watts. Either way, you're still inside the safe margin, just as above, don't use a heater on it. I always use a heater directly from the wall when I use one. The heaters cable gets warm, let alone the extension

Actually, for over 10 years now the UK mains has been nominally 230V.
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/33531-post32.html
Best to use 230V - 10% = 207V instead.

Re: Surge Protector
Its nominal 230vac +/- 10%, so it can go as high as 253v within normal limits My house hovers around 248v according to my plug in power meter.
