Digital Camera recommendation
Looking for a new camera, as my 5 year old canon is showing it's age, and on the verge of breaking down...
I've probably got a budget of around £200 to £300 - any recommends?

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
Hmm.. I'd like an SLR - but I think for the moment something small and easy to carry around would be best..

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
I bought a Ricoh R10 which I find an excellent camera but the reviews have not been that good. As Zingle suggests the Lumix range are great, I would suggest the Lumix DMC-LX3 but it's a bit outside your budget. http://www.amazon.co.uk/PANASONIC-Lu.../dp/B001DT02BY
A well respected review site - http://www.dpreview.com/

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
Extremely happy with our Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3. The TZ5's available well within your budget so you'd have some money left for other bits and pieces.......

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
It depends on what you want it for -
- quick snaps
- easy portability (fits in pocket)
- resolution (showing the pics on monitor or large screen, or just printing)
- for your special interests (zoom lens attachments, low light filters, easily portable for running away, etc).
List your requirements/wants, probably get more appropriate recommendations (imho).

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
if you're looking a compact cameras, I'd personally stick to either panasonics Lumix range, or a sony (as they use carl zeiss lenses). I have owned both in the past and was very impressed with them. I'd never touch a fuji finepix again!!! I've been using DSLR cameras (canon) for a few years now and would recommend one for control and quality if images, but if portability is your main concern, stick the the above and you can't go far wrong imo. the Lumix range is my personal fav for compact though.

fair point

these really - I'd like something with a large lcd screen for previewing etc, but realise that doesn't go hand in hand with portability always.
Something with a fair few features, but is easy to use (else the wife will complain).

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
Get yourself another Canon or as least consider one. IXUS 85 I have is great, easy point and click camera. I also recommend a trip to your local camera shop (probably Jessops) or Curry’s have a good selection and have a play and look at the software menus and how easy it is to use them. You can beat a good button press and fiddle, to test the quality and ease of use of the product. Then walk away and check the internet for any deals for the camera you like, you can always go back and buy it if they are around the same price. Also a good place for accessories like memory cards, cases etc is play.com (Case recommendation is Lowepro).

Re: Digital Camera recommendation
Wandered onto pixmania and the first thing I saw on the front page was this
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/8865...x-s1000fd.html
It's a "bridge camera", a level between the compact and the DSLR or ZLR.
Now personally, I will not consider anything other than NiMH AA power, so using those is a plus - need more battery runtime, just get a few more 4 packs of the best you can (ideally the long charge holding types similar to eneloops etc.)
I doubt you'd get a true DSLR in your price range, not with a lens anyway!
Ah, one

Mrs Gaz has a Canon IXUS - mine is a Powershot A580 - bigger, but just as easy to use, I'd recommend Canon as a make, just choose a model ???
