Re: have you ever heard of ?
I know 1 person with Aspergers and my wife knows 2, one of which is the lad I know.
I have no first hand experience with Aspergers syndrome or Hans Asperger.

Re: have you ever heard of ?
i think he was the first to diagnose aspergers syndrome [hence it is named after him]
i saw something about him on TV recently [didn't pay to much attention] but something stuck in my mind

Re: have you ever heard of ?
The woman I'm seeing, her daughter has Aspergers' Syndrome as well as that computer hacker guy who's doing his best not to get extradited to America. The very little I know is it seems to be about what happens when the sufferer is under stress, they can't cope with it properly and it affects their behaviour. I confess my total ignorance to it but AFAIK it's along those lines.

Some of our tenants have this condition, also anyone who watches Boston Legal should know too!

Re: have you ever heard of ?
Asperger's is a kind of autism, main features of which are inabilitity to take in normal social cues and also developing obsessions about certain subjects.
That's one of the main reasons that Gary McKinnon shouldn't be extradited, he is less able to appreciate he was doing anything wrong.
I know a guy with Asperger's that is obsessed with old computers and retro technology, i.e. tapes and records. You can tell this guy to "F" off(and any other insult you can think off) and he just doesn't/can't appreciate the insult. The other thing is that he talks all the time, never shuts up, even at the most innaproprite times and in all the wrong places.

Re: have you ever heard of ?
I don't know anybody with this form of autism. I first heard about in the excellent novel the curious incident of the dog in the night. The author's name escapes me for the moment but it was very well written.

Re: have you ever heard of ?
Haven't heard of Hans Asperger, but have heard of Asperger Syndrome. I think I watched a programme about someone who suffered from it. If I recollect correctly they said exactly what they thought even if it was not pc, and swore a lot, very loudly! Or was that something else?

Tinky's comments reflect my own. Being asked the question in the street I would probably have said I didn't know the person in question, but had the question been about Asperger Syndrome I would have said I had heard about that condition.

No, that sounds like Asperger's.

Re: have you ever heard of ?
I've never heard of Hans Asperger, but would assume it's where Asperger's syndrome comes from.
My friend's child has it and a boy in my engineering class last year had it too.
Voted No, as I have no first hand knowledge of him or heard of him except in the context of Asperger's.

Re: have you ever heard of ?
I don't know a whole lot, but I remember googling Asperger's quite a while ago after watching a documentary children with Asperger's and as one would expect information on Hans came up!

Re: have you ever heard of ?
I score just inside the positive (if thats the correct word) range for 'having' aspergers.......which explains a lot

Re: have you ever heard of ?
Yes, it's fairly common. One of my biggest bugbears at university was people self diagnosing other people and saying "that behaviour is a bit aspergers" or "that's a bit OCD". I think it's overused in everyday conversation.
