Chickens
About 4 months ago, we got some chickens, because we wanted fresh eggs, and they are nice to have around. I only have one photo at the moment, will post more when I have taken them. We have 3 in total
Edie - White Sussex (Pic Attached)
Mable - Rhode Island Red
Berrol - Speckled
I thought I would upload the photo I have for you all to see.

Re: Chickens
I have always fancied keeping some poultry what puts me off is the possibility of noise and ****ing off my neighbours.
When I was a kid my grandparents neighbour kept chickens (among other things) and I clearly remember my nan dispatching the chickens every now n again for the neighbour. Cant remember if we ever ate any of the chickens but the eggs were IIRC second to none.

They do cluck but its not noisy. Also they are very hostile creatures. We have a bird table in the garden, and when a pigeon lands on it, they all crowd round the bottom of it, ready to scare it off.

Re: Chickens
WQe thought about getting half a dozen of the rescue chickens in but since we got our second rescue doggy if's become unfeasable.. Instead we now buy the eggs from a women in the next village who has about a dozen chickens at home...
Just out of interest though are any of the eggs like THIS???

Re: Chickens
I wish the eggs were that big, but sadly not they are normal sized

Re: Chickens
My daughter had hens for a while including some rescues, poor sad little creatures they were too in the beginning. Half-bald and afraid to go outside at first.
I really got to like them all after a while. They're very much creatures of habit. They'd all go off in a mob picking around the hedges around her paddock and you'd hardly see them for hours, then within a few minutes of the same time each day they'd arrive outside the back door waiting to be put to bed.
They drink an amazing amount of water..

Wayne, it's a bad idea to name your chickens because you will probably want to eat them one day

Re: Chickens
You may notice your yolks arent as yellow but fear not, some places add all sorts of things to the chicken food. Yours are no doubt much healthier than some shop bought eggs.
I'd love to have some chickens here but we have a lot of foxes that come through the gardens. Not a good combination.

My dad keeps saying that, but the joke is just getting old. Anyway why wouldn't I name them?

Yes you will, when they stop laying eggs. Dig over a little ground in the garden and just don't tell anyone where you got the Sunday roast from .
Noise shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't get a cock .
