Bed slats
Hi
Just assembled a bed we got off the internet, now the slats on the bed i take it should go accross level.
I think this bed has been manufactured wrong as the center support bar is 230mm off floor no adjustment, and either side rail is only 208mm no adjustment. nearly a inch lower either side.
so when i lay the slats down they dont sit right. well to me they dont there like a see-saw.
never had a slat bed before, i take it this is totally wrong?

Re: Bed slats
It sounds wrong. I take it that you are happy the frame is assembled correctly with all the rails and stuff the right way up.

Re: Bed slats
Yes are you sure the centre/side rails are the right way around?
Alternatively the slope might be a useful design feature to assist egress on one side.....

Re: Bed slats
We have 2 slatted beds. One is just flat slats which go across the bed base, fit in a recess on the bed rails and are all completely flat.
The other is a sprung base and has a central, lengthwise strut for support, then slightly arched crosswise struts which fit into it. If you have a slat which sticks up that much I would think that you either have the slat, or the whole frame, upside down.
We initially assembled our bed wrongly and it resembled two hammocks. It took us so long to put it together that first time that Mr G tried to convince me it was right in order to get out of taking it all to pieces and starting again.
I hope it's the same problem as ours because reassembling our bed was simpler than trying to get the supplier to rectify the problem would have been.

Re: Bed slats
sounds like you put the legs on upside down and the centre support bar should sit under the slats perhaps?

Re: Bed slats
Me thinks you should find an ex Prisoner of War for advice. They'll know how it goes together judging by how good films like Great Escape showed them at dismantling bed slats for use in tunnelling reinforcements

Re: Bed slats
Not that I'd want to put a downer on your new purchase, but I had a slatted bed from IKEA until last year.
Because I didn't put the slats into place properly with the plastic 'holders' screwed into the bars either side to keep each slat in place, for a good six months my wake-up call was my mattress collapsing through the bed!
Fortunately, when I met my current girlfriend, she forced me into buying a new non-slatted bed. It was making 'the other' too difficult.
