Kitten in Season?
My kitten keeps meowing and humming and rubbing her head against anything she sees.
She's only 5 months old. Is their anything I can do to help her other than getting her a male cat to 'mate' with?
Will my kitten 'spray' in my house??
Thanks

Get her spayed..there are far too many 'spare' kittens in the world.

Are their any disadvantages to a kitten/cat when they are spayed other than no kittens???
Does the cat still stay friendly etc??

Show cats are normally not neutered/spayed but any responsible owner that does not intend to breed should have them spayed.

They are as loving as ever and the advantage is that you don't have to worry about finding homes for unwanted kittens...You can get help and special offers from a variety of sources in paying the costs of getting a cat spayed.

The last link should provide a long list of possible places to get help in neutering your kitten.
Please consider it..it's much kinder to your pet not to have litter after litter.

well lets Analise it
6 inch cut in your side
internal organs removed
unable to fulfill life's prime directive ie [make more]
a recipe for everlasting love
i think it should be allowed the right to reproduce at least once . thats just my opinion of course .

Yea, i'm going to get my kitten spayed, but the vet said it can only be done after she is 6 months.
Can someone else please confirm that my female kitten won't spray in my house when she's in her 'season', as I think I read somewhere that they will.
Thankyou everyone.

i have 2 female tabbys and neither of them 'spray'. They have both been spayed and they are both ott on the 'friendly, stroke me, no ME' front.

Re: Kitten in Season?
It isn't necessary for a cat to have had one litter before spaying; that doesn't make any difference to her health. But if she does get pregnant while she's still a kitten herself, it'll make a difference to her growth because her body will be putting its resources into making kittens and not her.
One positive advantage of spaying is that she'll live longer. Unspayed queens are placed under stress every time they come into season and aren't mated, so spaying eliminates that stress. The alternative is to be knee-deep in kittens...appealing, but impractical. Actually, my cat is the result of her mother's owner's erroneous belief that she didn't need spaying so soon since kittens couldn't have kittens. Nuh-uh!
What breed is she? I read somewhere that British Shorthairs tend to mature more slowly than some breeds, so I delayed Tigger's spaying until she was 9 months old to give her a chance to mature as much as possible (though it made little difference; she took after her mother, who is quite small). It wasn't too much of a risk re pregnancy because a) most of the local cats are queens and b) she's mainly an indoor cat anyway. Had I been in a job with sensible hours I would have liked her to have had one litter, as I'm sure they would've been cute beyond all reason and I could have kept one or two as company for her. Oh well.
So all in all, it's best all round if she's spayed sometime in the next few months - unless you want a litter and you're sure you can find homes for them.

My kitten is a Domestic short haired cat....
She is also leaking from her private parts. I really feel sorry for her, but I can't do anything till she's 6 months.
