Blocked Bosch Dishwasher

I have a bosch dishwasher and yesterday once the cycle was finished I opened the door only to see a whole load of water at the bottom. It had not been drained, and I'm assuming the machine is blocked.

It has not been moved and I have yet to check the outlet pipes at the back of the machine, but can I asafely assume the blockage is in the machine and not the pipe?

Has anyone had any experiences in the past that they have cleared up them selves without resorting to an engineer/plumber?

Re: Blocked Bosch Dishwasher

Either blocked or the pump's gone in it...

Take the drain at the bottom of the machine this should have the filter in it and is the most likely thing to be blocked..

Re: Blocked Bosch Dishwasher

i took the drain out - bit that houses mesh filter, and cleaned it. Are pumps expensive?

A new pump wil be very expensive,Having cleaned the filter and ensured nothing is stuck in the outlet pipe stick it onto a short rinse cycle, with no dishes in it and hope for the best!!

Re: Blocked Bosch Dishwasher

Ours does this occasionally (Happens to be bosch), just because its blocked, not a very nice job clearing a gunk out though bleeuughh.

Re: Blocked Bosch Dishwasher

If it drains via a spigot on the trap under your sink? That is usually where the blockage is and it will be solidified grease.. YUK!

If so take the whole trap off and thoroughly clean it out.

Re: Blocked Bosch Dishwasher

Thanks very much for all the suggestions. I spent an hour last night trying all sorts of things including blowing hard into the drainange pipe, sucking a mouthful of dirty dishwasher water, cleaning out the filter by removing the little cover under the wire mesh.

And it worked. No need for a new pump. Water drains as it should.

I was just saying to a colleague how many call outs the internet has probably got rid off. A few years ago I would have reluctantly paid someone £50 to come out and just have a look. He would have probably done the same as me, and more than likely told me I need a new pump!.
