Some how I don't think that wearing bells round their knees and waving a stick in the air would be how most young men would approach a spring fertility offensive. Well not around where I live in Manchester.

On second thoughts, they already wave the sticks. It's the bells that would lose them their street cred.

Some of us do - and have been for over 20 years

I think the Ring are being melodramatic. There are plenty of young Morris dancers about. We even have one 19 year-old in our own side who has been with us since she was 12.

There are 3 Morris organisations: the Morris Ring, Open Morris and the Morris Federation. Each has a slightly different aim and outlook. The Ring is more 'old fashioned' and purist and, at least used to, believe that The Morris should be danced only by men. Small wonder then that their numbers are dwindling!

http://www.themorrisring.org/
http://www.open-morris.org/
http://www.morrisfed.org/

PS. we never, ever refer to ourselves as a Morris 'troupe'!

If you fancy having a go there is almost certainly a side near you:

That is not playing fair.!

None of the dancers seem to be based in Warrington so I guess you are the guy who split his pants as a result of an over exuberant bout of stick shaking. Either that or you are wearing a frock.

I happen to know altis is a very tall person, which tends to rule out the frock wearers

I'm guessing the one with the overly exposed gusset, as well

For some it is but for many of us it's all about the thrill of a performance, the fun, the cameradery, the exercise and the tradition.
