Re: Sales!

"Sales" are not what they used to be... now it's just the dross they couldn't sell at full "recommended" price, or stuff that is out of fashion or about to be superceded.

Re: Sales!

Most stores have been having sales for the last month or so anyway. Doubt they will be anything special this year as there have already been plenty of offers.

Best to look online as play.com and game.co.uk started their sales already.

Re: Sales!

Sales in the UK normally disappoint. Usually it's just the crap they can't sell that they try and get some mug to buy with 15% off or something like tht. Maybe this year it'll be different with the current problems being felt by high street stores.

Yeah, but never the item you want, and even if they do it will be out of stock.

Re: Sales!

I am soooo disappointed with sales. Whenever I have got even just a fiver to spend - can I find anything I really want? no... not even with a 20% off and free delivery code for debenhams. Am more tempted to use what we have got left as a deposit for a holiday!

either that or just put it in the isa so I can't spend it on pointless rubbish

As far as I know, stores only have to have one line of stock at their up to90%off sales. This enables them to get the punters through the door, and if anyone asks staff where the 90% off goods are - you can guarantee it will be the gaudy jumper at the back of the store which no-one would be seen dead in

Well said!

We went to the "sales" today - the only bargain we got was a duvet from Debenhams - it was half price with another 20% off making it about £34.

The rest of the stuff was rubbish, and a special mention must go to that hyped up jumble sale aka, Next. All they had reduced was some casual shirts and summer shorts. No decent summer t-shirts that had not sold - or anything like that.

The Home section was just full of tat that nobody wanted. We went to two stores in a vain hope it may have been a one off.

Nope.

Either we missed the boat (aka get up at stupid o'clock) and get in there at 5am and get the odd bargain or get nowt.

Funny - I remember last year being like that as well....

Sales - pah!!!

Re: Sales!

Next's 'sale' is junk every year, nothing more than the tat that they couldn't sell any other time of the year because it's crap.

It's exactly as you say, just like one big jumble sale.

The annual stampede to the post-Christmas sales will not save stores from a grim 2009, the head of the British Retail Consortium says.
Thousands of shoppers have flocked take advantage of price cuts of up to 70%.
But the consortium's director-general Stephen Robertson said declining sales, heavy discounts and rising costs meant retail jobs were under threat.
