I do have the disable parking printed infront of my door, but I don't always have the disable passenger with me.
So I can't legally park infront of my own door without the disable passenger?
Thanks

Re: Parking Problem
Anyone can park in that disabled spot unless a Traffic Regulation Order has designated it a disabled zone... Most disabled zones outside of private houses are purely informative and not enforcable..
As far as the original OP quite simply the road is a public area and anyone can park there whether they live in the area or not... Even if a residents parking area was designated the spaces will always be less than the permits issued and you still won't be guaranteed a spot

Your right. They are parking there, as no traffic wardens come on my street.

I think that is either best practice or the strictly correct interpretation. I've seen at least 3 streets with boxes painted on exactly in that fashion and no sign. I expect there aren't signs as it saves a bit of money in getting them etched and erecting a pole. Councils also do make errors sometimes too...
Or having seen kymmy's post that perhaps explains the lack of signs.

So I can't even park infront of my house if I don't have the disable passenger with me?
|
Strictly speaking no. The same disabled parking rules apply, it is coincidental that the space is outside of your house (if they are enforceable at all like kymmy seems to be saying). I doubt anyone outside a row would query it though but that's the point a row on one of the streets I lived on effectively came down to that, whether either of the vehicles were being utilized by the badge holder. You are of course allowed to "wait" and park in a disabled parking space with the express purpose of picking the badge holder up.
Anyway a few day's photographic evidence off to parking enforcement should get a response, even if it is we can't enforce it, I don't know what the answer would be. Either way I think a few photos and calls to parking enforcement and/or pleasant word with them.

Re: Parking Problem
I have a similar problem in my street, although in my case I have a driveway to park in.
The problem with my street is when the road was de-regulated the council removed the double yellow lines from both sides of the road. The road is narrow and a few inconsiderate neighbours make it impossible for anything larger than a family car to gain access up the street.
The police and the council are not interested, even though the council have created the problem. It made me very angry 2 weeks ago when there was a letter from the police pushed through my letter box. It was to warn residents that there would be no parking allowed in the street because princess Anne was visiting the local hostel.
Also for the first time to my knowledge in 30 years the council cleared all the earth blocking up the drains and cut down the overgrown brambles.

Re: Parking Problem
Hmm!There is a disabled bay in my road and only the household of the house with the disabled person uses it.No one in the street would dream of using it even those with blue badges such as the other disabled chap in the road.
In fact I think we would all gang up on anyone doing that.

I just feel it's not fair, as people from other roads can park anywhere and people who live on that road have to park at the end of the road.

Re: Parking Problem
Permit Parking Schemes are cons that just make the local council money, I have to pay £40/year to park outside my house (doesn't sound like much but it adds up especially on top of council and road tax) but anyone can park there for 2 hours without fear of getting ticketed and I've spoke to the wardens and they're lucky if they make it down to the road once a day.

Re: Parking Problem
The local Uni campus introduced a parking fee, so the students/lecturers/cleaners/et al all started to park in our quiet residential area. Locals complained, but legally the Uni bods are allowed to park around here.
Then the councillors started a petition to get certain areas yellow-lined to allow easy passage of bin-lorries and emergency vehicles, but all that will do is move the problem elsewhere.
Many locals took to parking on our pavements, and often driving along them for dozens of yards at speed (I almost got knocked over as I stood on the pavement outside our home... the driver was actually annoyed that I was barring his way!!).
The latest council idea is residential parking permits... at cost to all residents with cars, and at cost to any visiting cars (residents will be able to buy a "visitor pass" to hand out to anyone who turns up in their car). As most homes have driveways, you'd think that that meant no need for a residential parking permit... but NO! They are hoping that ALL residents will pay for the permits even if they never park on the road!!

Re: Parking Problem
the problem all started when they "privatised" or "de-criminalised" parking offences and took the traffic wardens away from the police and gave them to the local authority.
The local authority are only bothered with revenue and can't be bothered with enforcing the restrictions they have painted onto the road outside of normal office hours.
