Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

I've said the Vectra as it's a great all rounder, can't be faulted, my only worry is what will happen to GM

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

I'd go for the Vectra as long as it's not the mk1 - that was an absolute dog.

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

I've had both (estate versions) and the Passat is def more refined and comfortable. Diesel is slightly quieter on the Passat, but more raunchy on the Vectra. If you can find both at the same price I would go for the Passat.

I vote Passat, i can't stand the seats in the Vecras they give me back ache, apart from that the Passat looks better, if your talking about the new model.

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

Having driven both - I would go for the Passat - especially with the 2.0 TDI engine. Far more refined and planted than the vectra, which, for me was a bit unsettled over high-speed bumps and dips on the motorway. The 1.9 TDi passat (with the 130bhp engine) is slightly underpowered (I have an Audi A6 with that engine and is on the same platform as the Passat and think the A6 needs a bit of a power boost).

I would advise to look around though as many Vectras and Passats are high-mileage rep cars.

Be aware though that the VWs parts are higher costs than the Vauxhalls

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

The great thing about the 1.9 130 engines is they love a remap, you can see 180bhp from one and not really any loss in mpg on motorway journeys.

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

if it was my money, i would pick the passat, just for build quality and refinement, as well as better residuals when you come to sell on imo , VW diesels are pretty refined and bullet proof, not sure about vauxhall power plants, Vectra's looks are pretty good though, so it depends on whats important to you, i,m pressuming your looking at a brand new model, if your looking at buying one second hand then i would definately get the passat, as they seem to stand the test of time very well, but older models look a bit dated now, another thing to bear in mind is servicing costs and frequencies, some diesels like ive got (renaultsport megane 175 dci lux) which needs servicing every 9K which can be a bit of a bind. have you also considered the new Peugeot 308, i drove one of the first 308 GT's to come into the UK and it was very nice indeed

I've been thinking about having it remapped, but I cant justify £600ish for it. I've just bought a V8 Range Rover so that'll have to be my "power car" for now .

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

Passat. A well built car, very comfortable, nice dashboard and controls, goes nicely.

Cons against the Vectra - hard seats, tacky plastic, dodgy sound when you drive it hard.

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

Passat by a mile and it will hold its value longer, had one as a hire car in the summer outclassed the vectra.

The one I hired was a Bluemotion which has both economy and power.

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

Don't go for a CC... its just a passat without any headroom in the rear Personally I'd go for an estate.

The Jetta is - just a golf with a boot - and not a passat

Re: VW Passat vs Vectra

If had to choose between the two I would go for the VW, most German cars are well built and reliable.

Have you thought about a Ford Mondeo?

I was told that Ford Modeo's are not very reliable, is this true?

What about Toyota Avensis?
